Thankfully there are at least a few Ali seller who will work with you and allow a PayPal transaction. My S2+ PayPal order with Simon went very smoothly.
If they donāt allow it you can use a debit card. I have a few friends that follow the same procedure with each purchase. Transfer exact amount to card, make purchase. That way there is very little money out in the open and the risks are minimal at worst.
If someone wants to fit a lot of 7135ās Iād recommend sanding the 22mm 16x 7135 driver down to fit rather than trying to fab smaller boards based on that layout. You definitely want to retain as much GND ring as possible. According to the dimensions posted in the OP only 0.5mm needs to be removed from the diameter. The less removed the better. I canāt tell from the posted pictures whether the driver will be too thick. (I think it will be fine.) Remember that my driver is setup to clear the ledge on the top and have the retention ring sit on top of the 7135ās on the bottom - that makes it ~3.2mm thick from ledge to ring.
I bought this from BG - The look is awesome, nice tight spot and not too blueish color. Original driver goes up to 8W.
Spare O-Ring, lubed threads - but the two head-parts are glued together. I heatet them up but I didnāt get them in two pieces.
I put a MT-G2 in it today - PERFECT SPOT, medium spill.
Really, really good, I love that. I orderes some SMD zeners and resistors for the 105C mod.
I am so excited about that light
Too bad, that the pill is hard to twist - even with clean and heat transfer paste. But you donāt need to twist that every day, soā¦
You have to twist (I know, that ātwistā is not the correct word here, but I have no more correct one :P) the pill a bit outside into the reflector - but thatās even in original state the same, so it should be no problem.
I will order another host from the convoy guy - hopefully without any glue.
So are you driving the MT-G2 with the stock driver? If not, did you try the stock driver? I've been keeping the idea in the back of my mind to buy an inexpensive MT-G2 host. I've been considering the Yezl Y3 and like the 26650 ability.
I like the Yezl more - because of the thicker battery tube.
With extension tube, this light rocks.
But the momentary switchā¦ I think, the momentary driver + zener mod from RMM should work.
To the LS-01: No, Iām using a Nanjg driver with zener mod. Works flawlessly. But you need a adapter board (21.5mm or so).
I bought the whole flashlight and just cleaned up the original driver board.
I havenāt tried to drive it with the stock driver.
I am too in the phase of finding hosts with easy / straight conversions to MTG2.
I chose to try this flashlight from BG because it is a complete flashlight (driver + emitter) with just a few dollars more, thinking that the stock driver might be handy.
Because this flashlight is meant to run on 18650x2 batteries on series, most probably it has buck driver, which based on my experience, should be able to handle MT-G2 with no problem. The only issue with stock driver is the ampere can be a bit limited, might be enough to drive well XM-L (for which the driver is originally designed), but not enough for MT-G2 (unless the driver responds well to resistor mod).
So, a few days ago, EMS delivered the flashlight and I started working on it. Until now, what I did is just swapped emitter to MT-G2 on copper board, while keeping the driver stock. And to answer the question, yes, it can drive MT-G2, the max tail current that I can get with two protected NCR18650 is 2A, judging by the brightness, I think it is not too bad.
Somebody says to fully tap the potential of MT-G2, it has to be driven beyond 5A. Hmā¦ I think it is time to find those tiny resistorsā¦ or even FETsā¦
I donāt know if this is what you are looking for (distance is about 2 meter).
It has quite a well defined hot spot, which is a good sign that the reflector is suitable for the emitter?
I find out that, even driven at comparatively marginal current of 2A, for normal use, it is bright enough for me, even comparing to my other MT-G2 flashlights driven at higher current (eg: 4A) which have larger bright spots.
Emitter in the reflector (distance is roughly 20 cm), the emitter is reflected all over the reflector (which is another good sign?)
Thatās pretty nice:) Thanks for the pic! Are the tiles white? Whatās your other MTG light? PM me if thatās ok. Donāt want to pollute Simonās thread with OT chat.
I got the BG one - working on it now with a XHP-70, 22mm DD+1 wight driver, zener mod. Pill came out with no problem - don't think there was glue at all. Having problems with the firmware right now
