The IR in my other cells aren’t that high (sometimes I got to wiggle them around). The protected and the sofirn cell that came with the button top (C8F newest version) have higher IR. Sofirn 80 to 150 give or take).
Should I do every cell I have or just a few of the unprotected that I use most?
Leo@Miboxer is that email or how do I send it to him/her?
I will not buy any more Miboxer charger`s while they only charge NiMh cells at a max of 1amp, even when li-ion cells can be charged at 3amp on some newer models.
My high capacity C and D cells take far too long to fully charge at 1amp.
I have the Miboxer C2-3000 and i think it is an excellent charger and well built.
I bought this C4-12 because a friend told me about it and I wanted one that could charge 4 26650 cells at once. Worked fine at first but then this happened.
Absolutely! It happens on my C4-12 mostly with 30Q button tops, making it almost useless for charging them. It has also happened with VTC6 button tops and a few other brands/types but it seems easier to get it to select a decent rate by “reinserting” the others, sometimes several times.
Interestingly, my “new design” C4 (the 100-800 mAh one, not the original two rate [350-800 mAh] version) behaves similarly WITH ONE BIG DIFFERENCE. If it initially automatically selects a low charge rate, and you do a manual override to its craptacular maximum 800 mAh rate, it STAYS at that rate (it doesn’t keep falling back down like my C4-12 does). It looks like they might have changed the manual override logic in the firmware of this newer model.
I want to like these chargers because they display almost everything that I want to know about a battery while it is charging, and currently have a a C2-400, C2-6000, Original C4, new style C4 and C4-12. I have returned a C2-4000 because one button didn’t work, and a new style C4 because it was way worse than the other one I have about selecting low charge rates. Fortunately both of those problems cropped up within the Amazon return window, so no problem. Unfortunately, my other Miboxers now all fall within the one year manufacturers warranty period and I’ve had trouble getting them to respond to warranty inquiries made through their normal email channels. I admit I haven’t PM’d Leo directly or become more persistent/threatening by resubmitting emails daily, as judging from the persistence of this type of problem report, the risk of receiving a replacement with the same problem appears great and I’m just tired of dealing with them.
For all those who say they have no problems with their Miboxer chargers, lucky you, for now.
If anyone wants to claim the real problem here is due to high resistance in button top conversions done by battery distributors of as-manufactured flat top batteries (supposedly the ONLY way 30Qs are currently made), I’ll note that none of my 30Q button tops from multiple sources have a problem supplying 18-20 tailcap Amps (their buttons don’t appear to get abnormally hot), and NONE or my MANY other chargers have any problem charging them at reasonable rates.
The 999mOhms seems to be very high. I’m guessing the button-top doesn’t connect or make contact with the Miboxer C4-12’s connector, and it’s causing the charging to not function properly?
I’ve tested some “generic/unknown” 18650s (from old powerbanks, etc) on the C4-12 (I don’t use those 18650s except for “testing” purposes only) — the highest resistance I have for Li-Ion is only about 400-500mOhms, even the 18650 that only has around 50mAh tested capacity on 0.50A discharge rate (yes, that’s fifty).
I have a few 10-year old Eneloops/NiMh that measure “999mOhms” on the Miboxer C4-12, and they charge very slow, but I tested them and they do seem to charge to full, albeit at a longer amount of time (I could adjust to a faster charging rate manually though).
Hi guys,
First of all, sorry for double-posting if I repeat the words I used in a another thread about the C4-12. I just want to confirm two odd behaviours that other users seem to experience with the C4-12:
1) My C4-12 had big issues with the measurement of IR, too. Brand new 30Qs button tops were indicated with at least 70mOhm, but mostly they were indicated with 350-999 mOhms, especially in slot 3 and 4. Subsequently, the charging rate was automatically reduced down to less than 0.5A.
2) The issues with button tops can also be reproduced in another charger I own, the Enova Gyrfalcon All-44. When I put in button tops (those with a spot-welded joint that can be ordered e.g. from Banggood or nkon.nl) into the charger, there are always wrong, i.e. too high voltages indicated in the first place. Sometimes they will be shown as full even though they are down to 4.0V. After some wiggling and turning inside the slots the values become more accurate. Of course, all contacts were cleaned before the charging process. Furthermore, the Gyrfalcon also indicates „frozen“ values for quite some time before there is an update, in particular with button top cells.
So, it does not necessarily have to be an issue with the C4-12. My C4-12 went back to Amazon for reasons of wrong identification of the battery type. I cannot trust a charger that takes a lithium ion cell for a NiMH cell.
I have 2 D4 chargers that I use for my 30Q cells. It takes forever but I’m not comfortable with the constant 999 and other issues along with my charger. 26650 cells of any kind I have charge great.
I do not have a multimeter but I take the cells out of the Miboxer and put in the D4 and vice versa and they always say 4.2V charge.
Not sure. But they charge enough for my lights to work long enough. My Miboxer also did that NiMH crap also!! Forgot to post that!
I don’t know if it’s cool or not to mention a different charger in Miboxers thread, but if anyone was looking for a high power charger for a pair of cells, the Xtar SV2 Rocket is on sale at illumn for $19. It can charge two cells at 2 amps each. It doesn’t have the fancy display information that the C4-12 has, but it’s still a good charger. I’ve got two of them and still use them alongside my C4-12.
I personally think the C4-12 is the better charger, but for those that have had an issue with it and want to try something else, I think the SV2 rocket is a good choice.
Thanks I’ll check that out. I like the c4-12 but it’s just weird with them Samsung’s. All my other cells work great in it. Only had that NiMH issue once.
I can’t say what’s better cuz I don’t have that charger you mentioned Jason. But overall I do like this charger. Just a couple bugs. I always watch my cells while charging (stay in same room).
Just in case.
Works fine with all my OEM flat top, solder blobbed flat top and aftermarket modded button top 30Qs. The SV2 turns on with a default 1A charge rate selected, just press the button to select .25, .5, 1.0 or 2.0 Amps, stuff the batteries in and walk away without having to hang around to see what it’s going to do. It only displays % charge though, not voltage or current, and although I prefer to know more, I’ll settle for predictable behavior over something that could/should be better, but often isn’t.
Thanks @JasonWW for pointing out the Illumn sale, I just ordered another one.
There seem to be a few people that have had issues with the C12-4 charger but mine has been flawless, I did have a question about it when I first got it but that has been resolved and was actually not even a problem. This is a new charger and perhaps could have undergone a bit more testing before release or this could simply be issues that were missed, I don’t know.
From what I’ve seen I’d say that Miboxer has been very forthcoming and has quickly replaced chargers that had issues reported to them, they replaced mine even though it turned out not to be an actual problem.
This has become my primary charger and gets a substantial amount of use with no issues at all, to top it off it has cut my charging time significantly. I have nothing but praise for the charger and the company.
Okay guys I got a video uploading to YouTube at this moment that one or maybe two of you requested. It’s pretty lengthy like 24 minutes. I sound like crap in the video I’m assuming because I have bronchitis right now,. But anyway, I tested the 30q button tops, the cell that came with the newer version of the C8F and some LG unprotected cells. It’s uploading to YouTube right now. I’ll post the link here when It’s done.
