grin beam

Just going to post beamshots most I have no idea what light it is from. They are also original resolution. So it may take a bit load.

Taken standing in the beam of the searchlight mirror

K75 just before sunrise you can just see the reflection on a train.

W30

Holy shit that’s DOPE!

Your forum name makes more sense now

Awesome!

Oh wow.
Some of those look like the light source is actually in the sky shining down.

 thanks I thought it may be interesting. I like big throwers and the funny thing is my biggest thrower or the 90cm searchlight mirror with a 100w hid is actually the cheapest thrower I have ,under $300 kangaroo dollars.
The 100w HID gives you a long narrow beam but the CMT2890 gives you a column of light.

With W30

I think a GT90 on the right

Love it, really amazing !!!

But ......

Come on mate, how about giving us a bat signal too.

Absolutely amazing. How many UFO reports has that generated?
Looks like beautiful country, too. What’s that tower structure in the photos used for (for that matter, what is that entire complex?)?

Wow, lol.. that's amazing. Especially the first few hitting the clouds..

Pretty incredible grin!

Searchlight mirror is from one of these. I want to recreate it.(Google screenshots)

This has a 100w HID in it. What you can see in the photos is only about a quarter of what is actually visible. It is unbelievable how far that beam throws.
About 1km away

About 3 km

Haha I can only imagine what that looks like and it would be lighting up the fog creating a glow. Also out of focus.

That has to be a W30

I was wondering what this was and probably a few other people as well. The mobile phone tower is 1km away over the centre of town. Just down the hill from that tower is the police station. I don’t live there any more ASIO ran me out of town for being nuisance.

You can see the tailcap of a W30 which means it is.

Or this one??

What’s ASIO—they don’t seem very friendly to flashlighters.

Australian security intelligence organisation. That was a joke but it did attract some attention from the police a few times, I think out of curiosity more than anything. Walking out of the station and see that above your head I can understand why.

Grin - That is what my face is uncontrollably doing right now

Also

Look at those tiny tank treads!

From these pics it looks like you are at a Power plant, not stalking lol

My pics from next to Eraring power station hot water outlet. Its my usual spot now as the back wall is 400m away. The last few times i have been here testing lights even late at night at 11pm/1am people rock up to go prawning sigh.

Yes the one that just took a unit or generator out of service for good. There is some photos of the cooling water inlet taken from up on the boiler. It is a dinosaur and is reliability someone in summer standing next to a radiator with a hose to keep the unit in service? My power bill keeps going up and up but I would go to work and sleep all day because it might look bad for the driftwood if I did anything. They couldn’t even stack sandbags on a pallet. There are steam feed pumps and electric steam feed pumps that are small turbines driven by steam and electric and the same “A” team had worked on them for 40 years but I had to empty the drums that caught the oil leaks. They chucked a tantrum when I questioned their ability to fix the oil leaks and leaks I am talking 400-600litres a week and every pump was the same.
They spread half truths about the power system and blame everyone else when things go wrong. A good way of looking at it is they want everyone to drive a horse and cart so they have a job breeding horses while at the same time they drive a brand new car. (end rant)
I took a VR and now I’m setting up my blacksmith forge to run as a business making tools. See how it goes otherwise I will get a job.

Your beamshots make me grin

Regards Xandre

 It is good fun

24inch mirror is in the country, looking at 5000w or 7000w short arc lamp for it. I have an AC/DC welder now with high frequency start. For welding aluminium copper stainless brass. But for short arc lamps they use thoriated tungsten electrodes and before xenon they used argon gas. A 2.4mm electrode for the positive and 1.6mm for negative borosilicate cup and a flow of argon to stop oxidation and to cool the electrodes for a light source. Only thing there is no pressure.
I could go with one of those 1500w COB.
There is a photo of a collar I made with the hotspot focused next to the led. I am of the opinion that a properly designed thrower needs an aperture. If inside that recycling cavity there were other LEDs out of line of the aperture that would allow those extras to pump the main LED. I have ordered a new Bluetooth lux meter so I can do some better hopefully more accurate tests on it. If you are interested it would be good to get another opinion on how they work.
I moved the photos here
