3X21D gives you a lot of bang for your buck. A good design, nearly a million candela, integrated charging, powerbank, and even batteries optionally included for around $100. My only gripes are the lack of an external battery indicator and some of the quirky UI behaviors. I love the performance, ergonomics, integrated charging, and low price! I think this is the most compelling large thrower on the market right now because it’s such a high value for money, and it will be replacing the Sofirn SP60 in my personal collection for the foreseeable future.
Great review, thank you!
Feedback: Might you have lost a zero in the candela measurements?
I just can’t decide between this and the Convoy L7! The regulation on this was better than I expected, I’d love to see some comparative runtime charts though. I’m also undecided on which one would be easier to carry. Presumably neither can fit in even a jacket pocket? How do people carry theirs?
IMHO for jacket pocket you are limited to the single cell version.
I am a very (very) hard-core Convoy fan but for small-size SBT90.2 light the Wurkkos TS30S Pro is a formidable competitor. It ticks all the boxes: single cell, on board USB-C charging, Anduril, best button feel on market, and confirmed 1100 meter throw. It’s one of my most favorite lights, even among all the Nichia stuffs I have. ![]()
It is also by far the least expensive on market, $61 on Aliexpress is ridiculous for a SBT90.2 light. Just MHO.
Carrying this one requires either a big holster or a harness (like a rifle sling).
I found the TS30 to be very disappointing until I realized that I had misclassified it as a flashlight, when in reality, it’s a hand burner warmer with an LED on one end of it. Sure, you can change the thermal limit if you want to, but the results defeat the purpose of buying such a light in the first place.
The SBT90.2 needs a big host with plenty of thermal mass to handle all of its heat well, IMO. It’s the same reason I don’t own an L21B or KR1 with SBT90.2. I already made my fingers crispy and learned that lesson elsewhere.
Very surprised to hear this. I use this light A LOT. Heat not a problem with either TS30S or TS30s Pro because of very effective step-down, and thermal limits in my light are never turn down, only up. ![]()
Yes I did! Thank you for pointing that out. Fixed.
I reviewed L7 previously. You can compare the runtime graphs in my reviews of each light. I strongly prefer 3X21D now because of the integrated charging & powerbank, full control from a single switch, and more impressive beam. L7 is an excellent light but it’s less polished.
The absolute best single cell Sbt90.2 light I’ve ever used is the Weltool F6R. Otherwise you need multiple batteries to propwely run it.
What makes the beam more impressive? Throw, spill, shape? I would like to know more ![]()
The hotspot is narrower and it throws further.
Ah gotcha, so it’s the better thrower. I actually like that the L7 is more of a combo beam, but I might still want to try the 3x21D at some point. Thanks!
If the batteries are disconnected, does the UI resets to some default settings or stay the same?
I’m not sure what you mean. Disconnecting the battery does not make any changes to the UI.
I was trying to ask if disconnecting batteries would, for instance, reset the memorised light level to some default value or reset other changes made by the user e.g. smooth vs. step ramping, turning off ‘tactical’ mode or remove 10-click lock if set.
Ah! Great question. Disconnecting the battery:
- WILL unlock it
- WILL exit tactical mode
- WON’T reset the mode memory
- WON’T change the ramping type
Would you sign a petition to @Simon_Mao to allow Moon to Low 1H shortcut in firmware?
Or, alternatively, have a Memory off option, always starting from Low or Moon.
I imagine Simon is aware of our complaints about his e-switch UI and is not interested in changing it.
