Grizzly's Convoy T3 Ti/Cu Review – High-Class EDC on a Budget

I love the aesthetics. I like the brightness, UI, and battery support. The UI and build quality are fine. I strongly dislike the pocket clip. Ultimately I think this is a great value for money. Most of the competition is either more expensive or not made of Titanium/Copper. If you want a high-class EDC light on a budget and don’t plan to use the clip, this is a fantastic choice.

Thank you for this much needed review of the TiCu T3 with the new 5A dual fuel driver! It looks very promising.

In your review you state it is a boost+linear driver. Someone who looked at the driver parts claimed it to be boost+buck. Your runtime graph shows it running twice as long on a H10 than Eneloop - would this be possible with a linear driver?

If this is truly a boost-buck driver, Convoy may well just have become the best maker of single-emitter AA/14500 lights.

To me, that design is a mess. You could put the finest emitter in the world in it, with a perfect UI and feature set, and it would be a definite no.

Is the slimmer battery tube very noticable? It’s the main issue I have with the current light. I’d much prefer a slimmer tube.

I don’t know how to answer that. I don’t have an aluminum T3 to compare with, but I think the difference is pretty noticeable in photos.

Well now I’m not sure what it is. I thought it was Boost+Linear, the product page actually says it’s Boost+FET, and apparently someone else said it Boost+Buck. Do you have a link to that?

@ebastler mentioned two inductors on a Reddit comment. I recall seeing another comment/post elsewhere, but can’t find it. Maybe @ebastler can help clarify?

This is an excellent light.

I specifically asked Simon about drivers for 519a in T3 Ti and T3 Titanium Copper and thought I’d leave this info here in case someone will need it. For 14500 battery T3 Ti has 1.5A buck and T3 Ti/Cu 5A buck. And it is 5A buck driver, not FET as mentioned on the website listing.

Same here, i have asked Simon directly about which version have the 5a driver, and only the ti+cu version comes with 5a. I got the ti+cu light delivered today, it is the same output on 14500 as s2+ with 5a buck (not measured, just comparing these two next to eachother). I can answer any question once i finish my 12h shift, which will be in 12h -,-. Got 30 minutes with the light before the work.

Really need to decide on a style and stick with it, too many different patterns on this making it look hobbled together. Shame I liked it first sight unit I looked harder.

Decided on my style

I absolutely agree with this summary. While T3 Ti is somewhat underpowered, T3 Ti/Cu is awesome with 5A buck driver and which will allow you that high output when you need it.

I have no issues with clip as I use Convoy’s screw in clip which matches this light perfectly.

What I don’t really agree with is that it’s a budget light. It’s not budget light, it’s a great flashlight for fair price. And I think this is the price level we should expect from other manufacturers too.
