EDIT: 4/26/16 Group buy has concluded. Some emitters still available in shop links below.
Its not a typo. If you have not already heard in the announcement Cree now has a new generation XP. Thanks to Mark at Cutter electronics we can buy them right now!! As most of you know shipping from there is high so some of us have decided to do a group buy. I volunteered to head it up.
I am going to to my very best to keep the price down on this. The dollar amount you see _will _be slightly higher than what is posted at Cutter. The shipping from CE hovers around $18-$40 dollars depending on how much product you order so this will be divided up among the group. Also paypal fees cost money, envelopes cost money, packing material cost money and we all know who is left holing the bag if anything goes wrong. So if your not ok with me marking the price up a few cents for the group buy I totally understand, feel free to place your own order through Cutter.
This buy will be fore bare emitters. I will list which ever options are needed to the site. If you don’t see one you want just ask.
If you don’t already have an adventure sport account please don’t freak out, you can create one in only a few seconds. Just click the paypal icon or other media icons at top of the screen and it will auto fill for you.
Once you have placed your order please post in the thread. I will keep a public record of the GB here. Thank you.
No problem. 2C is the default in the order box which happens to be 5700k, so your good
2C is the coolest tint available right now
Here is some info I think will help clear things up for everyone. I should have posted this form that start.
In the drop down menu on the site there are bin codes. For example XPG3, 2C bin tint, S5 flux. The “2C” refers to the color of light. The S5 is output. S5 is currently top bin.
Some of the items on the drop down menu only say a number for the tint bin. For example 3 bin 4 bin 5 bin. Ther is no C or D or A etc. That is because no further breakdown of the tint was given on cutters site, I just copied from there. Here is the picture so you can get a general idea of what color you will be getting from each emitter.
Hope this helps. Let me know if you guys have further questions.
Pardon my ignorance, I tried reading through the pdf data sheet, but I don’t quite understand how to compare luminous flux between one emitter to another.
Can you tell me what kind of performance gains this should have over a comparable xpg2? I am interested in a few of the 90cri version, and the s5 flux (max output?)
Thanks in advance for dumbing this down for me
I don’t know if you guys knew but Cree did a change to XP-G2 emitters and their “upgrade” resulted in lux drop (obviously lower surface intensity of emitter) upon emitter de doming.
Thread here Mark is also aware of this thread and he promised to contact Cree and reply but still nothing…
So if G3 is a way to make up for failed XP-G2 “upgrade” they did recently than my thumbs will go up for Cree.
I also think someone needs to review emitter before any group buy or people could be very unhappy with purchase.
Sometimes you gamble and win, sometimes you gamble and lose.
Besides, most of the info is in the data sheet, the rest comes from experimentation. Someone has to do it eventually, are you volunteering to buy a small quantity before the group buy and burning them up in the pursuit of writing a review? If not, be careful about laying out an expectation that someone else does.
For $30 order 15 from the group buy and experiment, or buy 2 and pay for shipping directly from Cutter. It seems like a pretty obvious choice if you ask me, since some aspects of reviews have to be taken with a grain of salt anyway (such as dedomed performance) and you may still need some to verify that your method provides the same results.
I’m in this not for max output, but just hoping that the 90cri 4 tint will be a worthy successor to the sw45 nichia 219b that I love. No amount of 3rd-party testing will tell me how it looks to my eyes.
I have volunteer enough lost over 100$ and send 12 of new batch XP-G2 S4 2B to Djozz for testing. I am also among the first one that discovered that Cree made serious changes to XP-G2 batch of emitters that as result have ugly tint shift and lux drop.
And hell yes I had enough experience to notice that even before Djozz tested them so don’t underestimate me.
With my thread I saved a lot of money for people that are depending on performance of old batch XP-G2 cause with new batch of XP-G2 emitters they will get only blood and tears(ugly tint shifts and lower performance upon de doming)…
So I expect someone… Maybe even you KKW can do G3 pre-test before someone gets hurt like myself…
“dedomed performance” as you said take with grain of salt and add hot sauce on that I would say… But no doubt that Cree ruined new production of XP-G2 emitters…
So if they continued with same production process with this G3 we can’t expect anything good.
So if someone is selling them what cost him to sacrifice one emitter and do test for all of us?
