I don’t think O-L and I know I wasn’t directing anything towards you. A common thing for Chinese dealers to ask for is a picture if there is a problem with a light, even problems that can’t be shown with a picture, like a driver problem. I’m also a perfectionist but these lights are made in China, not Germany. I can go get at least 4 lights right now made by premium manufacturers Olight, EagleTac, Lumintop, and Thrunite that have defects from the factory, Vinh can attest to that. When I get my K50 and it has badly mismatched anodizing you can be assured I will be posting a picture and requesting a replacement.
There’s nothing unreasonable about asking you to send photos of imperfections you seek compensation from. And your word isn’t being questioned. They’re asking for you to substantiate your claims which is a very reasonable thing to ask for. Take a photo, they send out a replacement, easy done.
aoeu… To me it’s unreasonable. They knew they were sending out mismatched products. I say mine is mismatched. Send correct product. Done easy.
Being in high caliber sales I would never sell a misleading product and further I would never question my customer and have them send a photo when I knew I sent them out wrong.
We just don’t think alike and that’s cool.
Even if it was a shopfront such as Walmart or Costco, you would need to traipse on down, light in tow, and present it to some pimple faced lad/lass who would look at you funny etc. They being in China, have to resort to a picture. See it how you want mate, but its not really all that unreasonable IMO. At least in this instance you only need snap a pic with a phone, email it to yourself, up it here and then maybe email it to Supbeam. You hardly need shift from your chair.
I just received a lawn cart from Northern Tool that arrived with damaged parts. I called Northern Tool and told them what parts were damaged. They said they were sorry and they are sending replacement parts right away. No photos, no proof, no nothing. Supbeam admits they shipped defective products and now ask for proof that we received defective products. That is not reasonable, it is an insult. I haven’t received mine yet but I am not that particular about a slight mismatch. I probably would have ignored it but you can bet I will make a claim now if it is not perfect.
Supbeam/Acebeam may well have known they were shipping units with mismatched parts, but unfortunately for them, I doubt they bothered to write down the serial numbers and who got the units with mismatched parts. I used to sell extensively on fleabay. I’ve had a few too many experiences with buyers who just decided they paid too much for the merchandise, and want a discount because of some imagined trivial defect (or not so trivial defect that was clearly disclosed in the description)
Remember that shipping the replacement part from China costs more than a few cents, and it is only a rational business practice to want to limit those expenses. So I don’t think asking for a picture is unreasonable. It isn’t like they are asking you to pay the return shipping to China, and they are going to wait until the suspect part arrives back at their factory. Pictures are cheap, and so is email.
I will say this one time. You (and I) are in the US, they are in China. Different worlds, different viewpoints, different standards, different people. Get used to it. This is the way it is. It happens with every overseas dealer I have ever dealt with. They all have a policy. "Return for full refund", which means you pay the return shipping. That is the way it is. This is why I am going back to Maglites, because if I get a bad one, I can just send it back to Amazon, or take it back to the store and I never have to pay return shipping.
Things are the way they are and you/I/us, (meaning all of us), just need to remember that, when dealing with overseas purchases. Pay more and buy from a US dealer, or pay less and deal with what you got. I am not trying to be mean, I am trying to state a fact. It is what it is.
If you’ve ever sold things for a living you’ll know that for every 100 customers, you’ll have 10 who take issue with the sale and of those 10, a handful will embellish their claims. If you’re selling across the world to people you’ve never met, it’s only fair to ask for proof of claim. Your honesty is only part of it. As a seller you would want photographic evidence of it to pass onto your superiors, to make claims with other internal departments, record keeping and quality control, and a bunch of other reasons.
Please don’t take it so personally and believe that you being a customer automatically means you are honest by default. Especially the case if you’ve never dealt with them before. It’s not like your local hair-dresser of 20 years is doubting your word.
If mine comes and they ask for photos, I’ll happily oblige. It’s not a big deal, it’s the nature of the beast. If you truly have problems with sending a couple of photos and you feel your honestly has been questioned, stick to bricks and mortar.
I will provide photos also if mine is mismatched. I’m just saying I will make a claim now I might otherwise have ignored. I would understand asking for evidence if they didn’t already know they sent the mismatched units. That is what doesn’t make sense to me, asking for proof they did what they admit they did.
I just noticed on their site that it says S (stable)U (unique)P (powerful)Beam and I believe it’s all that. Can’t wait to try this one out for the first time.
Does the magnetic control ring have indent’s such that it clicks at each mode and stays put? If so, is this a solid feeling click? Something that wears in with some use? Just curious as I seem to recall someone feeling like the detent is too strong, so I’m wondering if use smooths it down or not. Never used a magnetic ring control light and while I think it’s a good idea I also realize it could be a potential thorn in a modders side. Trying to get an idea if it’s something I’d want to try to work on or would it be better left alone.
I used to feel very strongly about lights being glued, as in…don’t want em glued. But now that I’ve had some focusing issues with a few intense throwers I’ve found myself wanting to glue it together once the optimum point is found so it doesn’t inadvertently get changed! lol I’ve even glued a few lights so that I myself would quit modding em.
Afaik the X40 doesnt have any “indents” for levels, its just one smooth turn. I know the K40 & K50 have nice solid clicks but from what ive read this has a smooth turn
EDIT: getting two threads mixed up now. K50 has solid clicks for each level
I think asking for a photo is just SOP. The CS agent are told to get a photo for their files, so they get a photo for their files. I received a DOA flashlight from LightsCastle and had to send a photo. How anyone could tell a photo of a dead light from one simply turned off or without a cell in it is beyond me. I sent a photo, they sent a new light. Don't tell me you've never met anyone in your country who had to follow mindless company procedures. The boss says all case files need a photo, so all case files get a photo. Send a photo.
Got mine today, would have gotten it yesterday if I didn’t have a lazy substitute postlady. Very sweet light, anodizing matches, case is banged up but I can live with it. At work now, will post more info when I get home.
So you can leave it in a chosen mode and turn it on/off at the tail, correct? Sounds cool to me, and the added value that a visual inspection should show which mode it’s in, right?
Something tells me I’m really gonna like this one…
