handled a surefire 6p tonight

I never picked one up before. My neighbor had it laying on his table. He’s a deputy and most departments wouldn’t consider any other brand. I do have to say it put out more light than I thought it would. Of course the tint was almost orange. It didn’t feel any different than my sf l2 other than being slightly heavier. I liked the momentary on/twist on switch. Other than that, I didn’t see much difference. Of course there is the pride of ownership that would come with the surefire being what it is but I can’t say that I’d buy one especially since they don’t accept 18650’s. But they are very nice lights. JHMO

If your life depends on it, a Surefire is well worth the peace of mind. (Lifetime warranty is nice too)

Oveready sells bored 18650 Surefire lights with Mclickie switches. You should show him the site

The Oveready custom HA Surefire 6p looks really nice, but near $150 with the McClicky switch. I wonder how it compares to a Solarforce L2P?

The Glass lens is twice as thick, threads are thicker and placed a little different. Can handle the recoil of a rifle, Mclickie is a forward clickie instead of reverse. The HA3 anodizing is far more durable then the Solarforce L2p style.

Although I’ve never had a Solarforce fail, Surefire’s feel indestructible compared to a Solarforce.

S7 tailcap can give you the same functionality on your Solarforce. That switch method is awesome for a true tactical light. A forward clicky for momentary works. This style of momentary can’t be left on for too long when a loss of small motor control results in pressing too hard though.

I don’t have a HA3 Solarforce, only an L2M. My Surefire C2 does feel a lot more robust than the Solarforce, but i was wondering if it was because i was comparing HA3 to HA2.

Its discontinued, and uses the P60 drop-in format

scratched my head It’s a 6P not an M2 that has a different head to handle shock. Basically nothing in either the 6P or L2 to reduce batteries slamming forward into whatever module is in there. IIRC the dimensions are slightly different in the head of the 6p versus the L2. Not sure if that leaves some extra “slop” in the system but most of us wrap our LED modules which would seem to lead towards similar levels of friction between module and body. I just can’t think of anything that makes the 6P a better recoil choice than the L2. Am I missing something?

For stock ones

thanks for the links..

have prices dropped? i think SF was more expensive 1 year ago. I am not too shocked today about GG prices.

It comes down to the dropin, you can fit springs differently in a Surefire than you can a Solarforce. So with a spring on either side helps with recoil better. (Some is module based difference)

…and for a minute I thought Carpentry had a site that still had 6p stock despite it being discontinued. All I found were 6PXs which aren’t P60 hosts. That does raise a question since Surefire discontinued all their P60 hosts.

How many more hosts does Overready have? A decent chunk of their business is related to modding Surefire P60 hosts. That’s going to hurt when their stock and the NIB secondary market well dries up.

I haven’t bought a new Surefire p60 host since last summer. There maybe some still at local dealers.

Elzetta and Malkoff hosts are about as indestructible as Surefire’s.

6P-Malkoff still remains one of my fave lights when bored for 18650. Solarforce makes a better bezel though.

Kramer, maybe you can answer this. Why does everyone like Malkoffs? They aren't that bright, I mean they may be reliable but a Vinz drop in is also reliable.

Yeah, if you are doing a room entry with a high profile suspect the last thing you’d want is for your flashlight to fail. There are situations where you want nothing but the best because there is no room to error and piece of mind does mean everything. However, I’ve never had an issue with my solarforce lights but have had my streamlight stinger crap out when I needed it. Luckily I wasn’t in a risky situation.

Mod ....please move this thread to cpf

The 6P is miles ahead better than the L2. It has to be. If it isn't, I've spent almost 6x the $$ on a nearly identical aluminum tube. That is unacceptable, therefore the 6P IS miles ahead better than the L2, and I WILL die protecting its reputation.

That's how I read most arguments about Surefire vs. Solarforce.

I miss Community.

Why? I thought this was a forum to discuss flashlights. Was I wrong?
