And when everyone does that the ‘regular store’ will go out of business as they cannot operate by acting as an unpaid try on facility for online dealers. It has always seemed immoral to me, but each to their own.
Decent UK online dealers will send you a selection of frames to try, maybe you have an equivalent.
I’ve bought a few pairs of cheap online specs. Maybe £7-10 per pair or thereabouts. They’re okay, just for reading or close work like PC/laptop. Slightly flimsy feeling frames, not a big deal. Seem to smudge more than my two “expensive” pairs. They were about £125 for two pairs. TBH, I use the pricier pairs more and I’ve had them four years or so. The cheap ones are just as backups. I bought the expensive ones from a store.
my experience with budget glasses are they are pretty okay as a backup and not for your main viewing needs.
2 of my eyeglasses from goggles4u as low as $5 and $9.8 were slightly off and cause dizzyness to my eyes. Maybe I’m not used to it but usually with new glasses I can adapt within a week but these just can’t adapt
I bought one pair — computer-distance — from Zenni a while back. Lenses were fine. Only reason I didn’t buy another was the earpieces they had at the time looked like spear points at the ends, really sharply pointed — and I could imagine poking an eye out if I happened to be putting them on and someone bumped me or one of our earthquakes happened to throw me sideways.
I favor ‘cable temples’ — the curvy type that fit around the ear. Didn’t see any.
I only have correction on one eye, The other one should just be clear. The clear lens had a line of distortion in the center they had to send them back to the lab to get it fixed.
Check out JemOptical in Florida. I have bought all of my eyeglasses online for about 10 years. Both Zenni and JemOptical beat the hell out of any local shop. My last from Zenni were Titanium memory flexible with a progressive (no-line) bifocal with free clip on sunshades and oleo-phobic coating (smudge resistant) for less than $100. Local shops wanted 350 to 500 for comparable. IMHO, Zenni has better frame prices, Jem has better lenses.
Many pairs for years with Zenni for the whole family. I got tired of paying $500 for designer frames, even with vsp insurance. Now I just pay out of pocket instead.
I’ve tried AR, tint and transition coatings, all as expected, can’t complain. Have spare glasses
in practically every vehicle and rooms now :-).
Also had one pair replaced no question asked, just one data point.
I have purchased 6 pairs of prescription glasses from Zenni, including one pair of progressives to see how I liked them. I have worn trifocals for 20years, and although I could get used to them I prefer the trifocals. I had them checked by two opticians, who pronounced the well done and accurate. One said he got some of his own glasses from Zenni.
Others were sun glasses for driving, and one pair of computer glasses. Frames were all $6.95 except one SS whhich was on sale for $7.98.
The most expensive were the progressives which cost $44.78 with shipping. I also bought one pair of computer glasses which cost $33.85 w shipping.
I have been very pleased with all of Zenni glasses, and unless you have some special needs I highly recommend them. Don’t believe that they are not accurately made, as I have had mine checked, and all were perfect.
FWIW I can get a pair each year from the military and VA. I have found them no better than Zenni.
I have a pair of prescription sunglasses from them. Probably my favorite pair of glasses right now, don’t know what I ever did without prescription sunglasses. I wear a pair I bought from Eye Buy Direct regularly. I thought I was trying a different company than the ones I’ve tried (goggles4u, zenni, clearly, 39dollarglasses), but they actually shipped the Eye Buy Direct glasses from Clearly Contacts local warehouse.
I ended up purchasing some titanium rimless from Zenni, should be arriving next week we’ll see how it goes…
So far they have replied to all my questions very fast and agreed to perform extra work on the lenses free of charge, If they are as good at delivering quality glasses, I will definitely order a backup semi rimless pair that is currently waiting in their shopping cart.
This is a great thread. If any of you saw my glasses you’d know why I say so. My prescription is well over ten years old too. I need to figure out where I can get a reasonably priced eye test so I can get some new glasses. The prices on these sites are great.
What extra work did you ask them for? I’ve read that their customer service isn’t so good so I’d be interested on how it turns out. By the way, what lens coatings did you get?
I asked them to polish the edges of the lenses since they are rimless, ordered the oleo phobic anti reflective coating, supposed to be the best they offer, we’ll see how it turns out.
Don’t skimp, make sure you get a pressure test to catch glaucoma early. You won’t feel a thing if it’s starting, until it’s too late to do much about it.
