Has the ACEBEAM TAC 2AA with 14500 battery

Does anyone know if the ACEBEAM TAC 2AA has been upgraded to work with two 14500 batteries? I was going to buy a spare but there’s a $50 minimum on the Acebeam website and I can’t find one for sale anywhere else.

AFAIK, no, not setup for 2 14500’s.

If you wanted a spare 14100 battery junction has them (acebeam branded) for $9; with shipping it should be about $15

I’ve never seen a protected 14500 (dunno if those with charging boards are “protected”, per se), so I’d hope not.

You just know some retard will run it down to the point where the runt of the litter will go to 0 or even get reverse-charged. And if it can use moribund AAs, LVP would be useless to stop it.

Nice way to turn a flashlight into a pipe-boemb… :collision:

I will check it out.

There are several brands brands that sell protected 14500 (without onboard charging) like Keeppower and Xtar for example:

Quote from those pages: Protection Circuit (Against overcharge, over discharge, over current and short-circuit.)

The same goes for their USB-C rechargeable 14500’s:

The same goes for Xtar protected batteries:

At least acebeam claims that their 1000mAh USB-C 14500 has all the protections build in: It also includes a protection circuit in the anode to help prevent short circuits, over charge/discharge and over heating. (According to this website the Lumintop 1000mAh USB-C 14500 has a protection circuit: Lumintop 14500 USB Type-C Rechargeable Li-ion Battery)

@ToddZiegler1024 I know that Lumintop also has a USB-C rechargeable 14100 battery: Lumintop 14100 Li-ion Battery 1800mAh USB-C Rechargeable

Also Nitecore has a 14100 (NL1416R): Amazon.com

I just ordered some things from lumintop and I didn’t think about looking for a 14100. Thanks for the information. I will have to put in another order.

Given that the lithium battery pack supplied with the Tac 2AA is twice the size of a 14500 but 3.7 v I’m going to go ahead and say that no, don’t try putting two 14500s into it and supplying the driver with twice the voltage it’s expecting.

Contrast this with the battery pack for the P20 which is the size of two 21700s and rated at 7.4 v. The P20 can happily run on two 21700s because the driver wants 7.4 v.

I just checked the link to the lumintoplighting.com shop I posted and although they have $ 7,- shipping cost to the US, there isn’t a minimum $ order amount, so with $ 17,- all in, it might still be worth it if you’re in a hurry.

That Nitecore one on Amazon I linked to might even a bit cheaper (as long as you have Amazon Prime for free shipping or order some other things to get to 35 bucks), but has a slightly lower capacity.

Good point! I forgot about that, but my post about 14500 batteries was mainly about showing examples for Lightbringer that protected 14500 batteries do exist.

Nonetheless an important ‘heads up’ in general to double check when wanting to replace a battery pack with individual cells!

This is why I asked the question before I tried it. Good information, thanks.

I didn’t see the nitecore link. I have prime so I will check it out. Thanks for the reply.

Even with the $2.99 for overnight shipping, it’s still cheaper than acebeam.

Kewl, but also remember that with the protection/charging board, they’ll be 14430s under the hood, not 14500s, so a bit less capacity.

That I didn’t know. Thanks

I haven’t done a capacity test on them, but Acebeam and Lumintop now both have/sell 1000mAh 14500 with onboard charging/protection, which is still not bad. Ofcourse it’s substantially less than the 1400/1500mAh 14500s that are now available, but untill ‘recently’ that was on the high end of capacity for a 14500.

Mine will be here tomorrow morning between 7am and 11am. I will do a capacity test when I get it. I always do a capacity test when I get new batteries. In the last few weeks I have gotten 50 new batteries of all sizes that I use. I have gotten some of the TENPOWER 50XG, EVE 50PL, vapcell K10 just to name a few . I also replaced all my lithium AA, AAA and 9V rechargeable batteries.

I was in similar boat a few months back, the acebeam price + shipping is crazy. Went with the lumintop option because I wanted to order what is probably 2025’s least popular AAA light (Lumintop L3) anyway.

1 Thank

I almost ordered a lumintop L2 yesterday. Instead, I decided to order the GT nano V3 and all the extension tubes (10750, 10440) for the GT nano V3 plus an extra battery.

I think you went with the better light, I’m cynical by nature, but I think those gimmicky swivel head lights are worse than zoomies.

FYI other than checking the voltage, I’ve not tested my 14100; I was planning on putting it in a modified convoy T4 but got side-quested by something more interesting to mod. Maybe I’ll pluck up the courage to stick it in my Jaxman M2… I would miss the 2-mode driver if it fried though…

A malkoff m61 in a 2aa body, running a 14100?

I have a klarus zoom and I was surprised by how well it worked. I thought for sure it would have been a waste of money but it wasn’t.
