At $100 each I would hope not many brought these things. If wifi bulbs don’t fall out as a fad then prices should drop dramatically. Its not like we have $3 wifi modules available or anything. So I can completely understand charging $100.
Apparently, we are told if we don’t accept police eavesdropping and warrantless wiretapping then we support child pornography, suffice it to say that bill was defeated pretty quickly.
However those same people vote for political parties who sneak the laws onto the books quietly.
At some point companies need to start being fined for horrid lack of security.
The bulb “hack”:
You have a nice secure wifi network, strong wpa password, wps disabled.
You have to give your new $100 wifi lightbulb the password to get it onto your network. No problem normally.
Bring in a 2nd $100 bulb, it calls out “Hi, I’m a new light bulb! Can we be friends?”.
Your 1st $100 bulb calls out “Hey! Of course I’d love to be friends!” “By the way the network password is WeAreMorons, please only give it out to other friendly bulbs”.
