Have anyone done a XHP35, C8/ M2Z style mod??

Hi. Has anyone done an XHP35 mod using a C8 or Supfire M2Z flashlight or something with a similarly sized reflector? I have a sliced, XHP 50 in a Convoy C8 at the moment and it’s nice but it would be nice to have more throw so am considering a M2Z mod with an MTNMAX driver (can this be used with an electronic switch?).

EDIT: The purpose of this light is to use as a helmet mount, bike light, with an external battery pack. If the MTNMAX can not be used with an electronic switch then options are further limited.

Any similar builds out there?
Thanks

Just FYI before you order parts, the MTNMAX driver is a buck driver, for the XHP35 you need a boost driver or 4-series cells

Yep! 22mm, mtnmax is what I’ll go with. Not many other options available in 22mm.

Check out this suggestion: DIY Idea C8 XHP50 DD - #6 by The_Last_Katun

Thanks mdeni  I think voltage drop in the wires would be problematic for a 1 cell driver . The 2 cell version is too big and I’m hoping for a little more than 1500mA to the LED. (aiming for the 2 or 2.5A mtnmax)

No, I’m saying the mtnmax will not do what you are trying to do. It is the wrong kind of driver. (unless I’m misunderstanding your comments and you plan to get the extension tube and run 4S 18350’s I guess)

You’ll definitely have to have an extension and run 4 18350’s to use that driver. But will a 22mm driver fit into a C8? I thought it was a 17mm space for the driver. Either way, I don’t think we have the technology to accomplish this task yet.

Per Simon’s store page: 15.09€ |Convoy C8 schwarz taschenlampe host|flashlight host|convoy c8c8 host - AliExpress

Driver cavity is sized for a 17mm driver and emitter shelf for a 20mm MCPCB.

Supfire M2-Z takes 22mm

Ahhhh. sorry guys. :frowning: I’m planning to use this as a bike light with a modified solar storm battery pack for power.

That makes more sense now.

I think the mtnmax can work with an e-switch, but it has significant parasitic drain when in “off” mode. So you would want to disconnect the battery pack instead of turning off with the switch.

What about the F13 linear driver with LDO?

IMHO it makes no sense.
Use the XPL-HI.
I did a step-up driver for Roche F6 and it does not pull more than 12W (overheating). Too high current through the inductor (at 250kHz).

You could also use Supfire M2 (non-Z) with LD-51 boost driver and an extension tube.

A C8 style light has significantly more mass than the F6.
