Just got my HD2010 a couple days ago and did some white wall hunting and annoying the neighbors who are 400 yds away. With all the hype about the HD2010 as a thrower I thought it would whoop up on my Trustfire X9. Well, no not really, they seem pretty well matched in the throw dept. I am running them both on a protected TF 2400 and then on Rev jim’s batteries. Both lights have about the same reflector and an XM-L so I gues they should perform about the same, which they do. I have some 26650’s on order. I wonder if I will get a little more out the front or just longer runtime. All in all I like the light. Seems a little more pocket friendly than the X9 and longer runtime with a 26650. The X9 has a little better fit and finish and a better clickie. I like the tint of the X9 better too. A little more natural, the HD2010 has a more blue tint. I converted the X9 to a single mode light which works well with the forward clickie. The disco modes in the HD2010 suck as all disco modes do. I may have to mod it too. Looks like I have another light to bust out when I want to put some lumens down range.
You will find the HD2010 to be brighter on 26650 batteries.
It’s on par with my TK41 in terms of tint, brightnesss, and hotspot. Almost identical beams.
As for 26650… well, lately I’ve seen many very high quality 18650 (i.e. new Panasonic 3400 mAh) that can deliver +5A with ease. So, both cells fully charged may deliver the same brightness at the beginning. Of course, unless driver is regulated, overall brightness with 26650 will be better (i.e. more runtime at higher brightness).
Just my .02
PS: I really like X9, but, as Tecmo said, it’s too long for 1x18650
Good to know that the X9 holds its own with the batteries you used, if you buy a Kingkong 26650 you’ll notice an improvement in the HD2010 as its direct drive on high. Better the battery, the better the brightness. It won’t be a huge increase, but perhaps another 300 lumens
As others have said it is a little long as compared to the HD2010 but it is a very nice light. It has the best fit and finish of all my budget lights. On par with my SF L2 and Fenix E21. It is my only light with a forward clickie. All the different modes kinda sucked with the forward clickie so I modded it with a single mode driver so the light is like an old incan light. Push the button and it comes on high and only high. Works well for momentary use with the forward clickie. I have other lights if I need H-M-L. I live on 4 acres with 2 barns, when I want to see something at night I reach for the X9 by the back door. Had a guy hunting (poaching?) along the creek about 400 yd behind my house. He parked his truck about 150 yds from my house and walked back. When he came out the dog started barking so I grabbed the X9 and had a peek. The boy about filled his pants when I lit him up at over 150yd. He thought it was the police. Looks like the HD2010 will do the same thing. I will probably carry the HD2010 if I want big lumens when out and about but the X9 will be by the back door.
I have the X9 and as others have said the finish is very nice… very long for a single 18650 torch though (20cm).
I have done the following to mine: replaced heat compound between LED star and body (~32mm diameter and 2mm thick) with Arctic-Silver (it came stock with some sort of soft white rubbery stuff), replaced driver with a DX 8 * AMC7135 and replaced LED wire with ones 2-3 x thicker then stock (the wires have to go around 4-5cm each so the resistance does add up)
The body now gets warmer allot faster… although does not get hot due to excellent heat dissipation. I measured 36°C as close to the LED as I could ( about 10mm from LED on bare aluminum) after running for 10 mins at 2.8A and about 30°C 50mm down from the LED on the torch body.
sounds interesting…. let us know how the mod turns out. Would be nice to see some outdoor beam shots with these two as well.

OK guys, I know that there is a lot of discussions about beamshots and camera settings. Both of my digital cameras have full manual settings for exposure and white balance. Has there been a consensus for settings? I assume white balnce for daylight but what shutter speed and f/stop? I will try to do some X9 vs. HD2010 wall shots and outdoor shots when my 26650 batts come in. And then try to post them here. Never done it yet.
Just noticed that the SOS mode on my new HD2010 is actually OSO. That makes the disco modes double suck. Why do the chineese make dyslexic flashlights? Oh well………
I guess those are for the outdoor shots. Are there any “standard” settings for a white wall at about 6 feet distance? Or do I just trial and error till I find what matches what I am seeing?
Is the driver for the X9 stock or a 2.8A one? Mine stock was pulling 2A (probably a bit more without the multimeter), there was a noticeable increase in brightness by switching to a 8 * AMC7135 driver.
The X9 driver is a 8-AMC7135 driver. It pulls 3.1 A with a rev jim cell. The stock HD2010 pulls 3.05 withthe same batt. A trustfire flame 2400 pulls 3.1A in both lights. Fluke 87 meter with stock leads.
I am thinking about modding the HD2010 with the same driver I put in the X9 with one or two modes. The shorter light HD2010 would be nicer carry light for lots of lumens.
After manual adjustment of exposure (Photoshop), this is what I got (mouseover to see the difference, the original pic is slightly overexposed, so impossible to say which one is brighter/throwier. If you can take another, less exposed pic, I will say which one is brighter. Anyway, having that pic only, I'd say HD2010 has better pattern and it's brighter)
