Hello everyone, at the moment there are some great deals on popular ‘thrower’ lights. I bought the tangsfire C8 from tmart when it was on sale for ~$12 and its currently my furthest throwing light, I’ve got my eye on two lights but do they offer a worthwhile upgrade over the C8?
First is the group buy HD2010 $21.99
Second is ZY T0-8 $22.41
Might either be ‘a lot’ brighter than the C8?
It would only be used 1/2 times per year (EDC lover here) but it is nice to have something kick @ss when required.
Everyone raves about the HD2010 but the battery options put me off as Im unsure of their build quality.
I like the parallel cells of the ZY T0-8 but everyone raves about the HD2010!
I’m on the fence whether to get one of the above or stay with C8.
Either t08 or 2010 will throw further, but neither will put out more lumens stock both have XML vs the C8’s xml2. The hd2010 would be closest to the tangsfire c8 lumen output maybe 5-15% less 2010 vs c8.
Both HD2010 and T08 are pretty close to each other in terms of throw and modding capability. I think that comes down to which type of battery do you prefer. If you prefer 18650 then you might want to get the T08 as it takes two 18650 in parallel to give enough juice, and you want to choose otherwise if you like 26650. And of course both of them outthrow any C8 by a large margin given everything else equal.
I was recently looking at the HD2010 as an upgrade to my Convoy C8 - and in the end I went for a Shadow JM26…mostly because of the side switch.
It has a wider spill than the C8 as well as more throw.
I’ve been delighted with it so far…
I’m gonna have to get one or the other the value for money is just insane, the amount of manufacturing processes in these lights then to sell them for peanuts I just can’t get my head round it!
I meant to do some comparison beamshots with my PD35, C8 and whatever else I’ve acquired in the meantime. If the weather clears up I might get around to it this weekend.
You get roughly double the kcd from a HD2010 or T08 over a C8 with same amps/emitter, etc. I've found HD2010's easier to mod and like the form factor a bit better, but T08's have their advantages too. The $22 deal for the HD2010 is a rare opportunity though.
lumens is about a wash with C8's, but a bit more out of the bigger reflectors. Same is true all the way down to EDC's, but typically you can run bigger lights at higher amps for their heat sinking, then of course higher lumens.
The problem i see with the small sun is difficulties with instaling reflector over a 20mm noctigon, as the original board is 24mm? I had to cut a part of the reflector, to sit as low as it can
