I just wanted to let y'all know that I will be making about a dozen of the 2AA Maglites similar to these, with a TIR optic and a Nichia 219 led on a copper heat sink. I will have a couple each of black, blue, green, red and camo. They will each be individuals, with some different embellishments, so that they are somewhat unique. I have improved on the heat sink center post design and it is now more robust.
I should start putting them out around the last two weeks in November, thru the first week in December. They would be good Xmas presents, especially if they are used with two Alkalines or two Primary 1.5v Lithiums, so that any non-flashoholic would like them.
I can't swear to the pricing, but I expect $30-$35 shipped. I will ship to any member, anywhere.
I'm not taking orders, as I just put them up as they are made. It's just a heads up post.
Do you have any other LEDs? As in, you could try out all sorts of different emitter types and see what of outputs you could get.
Maybe an XRE? or an XPG2? I’ve already got my 219 AA maglite from you Justin, so to everyone who doesn’t have one, on a 14500 battery it’s just over 300 lumens in the best possible tint. The head gets slightly warm and it’s great because it uses a lot of different types of battery.
I did two with XP-E, but was not impressed, due to the tint and lower CRI. I don't have, or plan to soon, buy any more Cree LEDs. These are probably the last of the Nichias AAs that I will make for a while. If it does ever get cold here this winter, I plan to curl up with a good book.
That ought to work, for about 15 minutes, LOL.
Seriously, I plan on taking a break from the AA lights after these, for a couple months.
I still have a Magcharger and a couple more 1D lights to do, after the holidays, or next week, or next year... Or whenever I do them. I have no real schedule and I like it that way.
Awesome O-L, I might be in for one. Would be a good gift for a hunter, as his current Nitecore D10 I gave him many years ago has way too cool of a tint to do blood tracking. Hmm, maybe I should modify that to put in a Nichia :)
