Hello from Finland, I’m located more accurately in Bothnian Bay -area. I have been building electronics as a hobby for many purposes, E.g. home automation, automotive data collection etc. I’m familiar with environments like Arduino and Platformio (I prefer latter). Another passion of mine is motorcycles. I currently own Beta RR 300.
I would be interested in starting to DIY with lights. I already have a project in my mind where I hope I can get to speed easier with the help of BLF people.
My first good light was first generation Armytek Wizard. I got it from local store with 10year warranty. Unfortunately it didn’t survive too long before it died. It was replaced under warranty to second generation version. After some time (it was maybe 2 years) lamp got faulty and killed 2 batteries along with itself. Once again lamp was replaced under warranty, but this time local store told me that they don’t have Armytek lights anymore and they could give me their own brand Lumonite Compass R as replacement. Compass R has been rock solid for the past couple of years. I have been using this headlamp in outdoor activities and also when working in garage, E.g. car repairs.
Welcome to BLF! Nice intro post, it’s good to have you here, excited to see what you build
Never heard of this brand before, the lamp looks expensive but good! I particularly ime the interactive runtime graphs on their website, very professional.
Company was established somewhere around the time I got my Armytek light from them. They have their own store in city of Oulu and their webshop serves nordic countries (at least the translations exist for Finnish, Swedish, Norwegian and Danish). In the beginning they started by comparing lights from different manufacturers and also shared this information publicly so that it was possible to truly compare lights between each other.
Judging by the issues I had with the v1 and v2 of Armytek Wizard I believe I was not the only one. Maybe that was the motivation for them to start developing their own lights. I remember Led Lenser being common brand back in early 2010s and lamps like Armytek Wizard were truly astonishing in comparison and without external battery pack (external wires are problematic in -25C temperatures).
Nowadays Lumonite is very common brand in Finland. You will see these lamps in mines, workshops, building sites etc. Also we have long and dark winter so another big business for them is the auxiliary lights for machinery and cars. They provide a tool for comparing auxiliary lights between each other which can be handy if looking to purchase one.
Interactive graph is actually a tool they provide for customers to compare battery powered lights between each other. Unfortunaly I don’t think they have English version available: https://www.valostore.fi/fi/o/valovertailu
