I believe I’ve finally found the place I’ve been looking for; I’ve already caught a glimpse of a few aspects of the field here.

I own a few nice lamps, but that isn’t the reason I’m here.
(Rest assured, I generally focus on LEDs.)

Professionally—though without formal training—I worked as an electronics specialist in very specific, highly technical areas that I rarely discuss (light generators, ultrasonic generators, RF, lasers, microwave technology, and micromotors).
Most of this work was medical-related (though not exclusively).

Recently, just before retiring, I developed an illness that has significantly impaired me, both physically and intellectually; I am no longer capable of doing the kind of design work I used to do.

The main thing is that I’m still alive, and I know what I’m looking for—as well as the path to get there.

Oh, I forgot to mention another drawback—a deal-breaker these days: I don’t speak English.
So, I’ll have to rely on translators.

In the meantime, I’ll be browsing your posts and picking up useful information.

Perhaps you could help me.
I find this challenging; I struggle with English technical terms and their translations, making it hard to grasp the concepts.
Maybe you could point me in the right direction.

A long time ago, I built a small setup using clear LEDs (the old kind, with a 20 mA max current rating) to create a strobe light centered at 41 kHz, in order to visualize the motion and displacement of a linear motor.
The LEDs were heavily overdriven—with current limited to around 1 ampere—and the conduction time was extremely brief, likely clocked at 410 kHz.

Later on, I revisited this setup—still heavily overdriven—but this time aiming for very high brightness at a specific color temperature (in the 395–410 nm range).

In both cases, by leveraging the LEDs’ safe operating area, I achieved high luminous flux, very satisfactory reliability, and low power consumption (in Wh).
I would like to apply this principle—which is quite similar to PWM—to high-intensity LEDs for standard lighting purposes.

Has anyone here ever built something similar?
Or are there kits available for this kind of application (e.g., LED + heatsink + lens + chopper/current limiter), powered—for instance—by a computer power supply (low cost/high efficiency)?

I haven’t found anything online in Europe.
There are SMD LEDs available, but I’m not interested in them (poor efficiency and reliability).
Using this approach, I think it should be possible to generate a few thousand lumens for just a few watt-hours—resulting in a setup that is both economical and powerful in use.

As you’ve likely gathered, miniaturization isn’t a priority for me; however, effective thermal and current management certainly is.

Has anyone on the forum designed a setup like this, or something very similar?
I’m having trouble finding one.
