Hi there, I am from the Netherlands and I am an electrical field engineer at age of 44.

This is going to be a long story how I end up here but here it goes :smiley:
I use flashlights almost on daily basis for my work, in the past (10 to 15 years ago) I was using Maglite’s but over time I went over to cheap (really cheap) AA flashlights for work. Only couple of dollars and it was more than enough for me, at least I thought so till couple weeks ago. I am also supervisor of 3 other field engineers and I bought those cheap ones for them too as little gift.

Couple weeks ago, I had to look for an electrical distribution box on a field in the middle of night with my cheap flashlight, I did have difficult time to find it, because there was no throw in the flashlight.

So when I came back home I ordered another cheap (but more expensive) light from Aliexpress with XM L2 for $15, I guess that XM L2 is a lie or a fake one but we will see. The reason for this light was the 18650 battery, since I vape I got a lot high capacity 18650 batteries lying around with a decent Nitecore D4 charger.

Next day I thought, this light is too big for EDC… So I went searching on internet en ended up here, the BUDGET part in the forum name was really appealing for me since I am Dutch :stuck_out_tongue:

Then it went all wrong, I am not sure if I am happy to find this community… Because in last 12 days I ordered couple more flashlights and other stuff :smiley:

I ordered a BLF A6, a Convoy C8 XPL HI Clear and a Utorch UT01, these where bought even before I even received the cheap one above by just reading on this forum, as you see I love budget but also quality.
Then I ordered bunch a SMD parts to build lighted tail caps, then I saw a review of a Liitokala Lii100 charger here, so I ordered one of those to keep it at work, the charger was delivered in 9 days and I was really impressed by the quality so now I ordered also a Liitokala Lii500 even I have a Nitecore D4. Then I ordered carrying pouches, clear tail caps, 14500 batteries and couple more 18650 batteries.

Now I am waiting till these things are delivered, but I am tempted to read more on forum, but I don’t dare to do that because I don’t want to end up buying couple more flashlights.

SOMEONE STOP ME PLEASE!

Hello from the USA! I’ve been in the electrical field my whole life. I worked as a technician in a stereo store for a few years. Then went on to wire and service offset printing presses up until I retired a few years ago.

Hi guys, thanks for warm welcome.

I have seen couple of you guys in some topics, nice to be here.

Believe me, my wife give up upon me after all those years with my hobby’s, so she won’t say much :stuck_out_tongue:

I forgot to mention, electronics is my hobby and I also like to work with mini mechanical equipment.

That looks like you have already invested a fortune, looking at those DMM’s, and all those proxxon tools, do i see a small lathe? Where do you live? It seems you can make something :heart_eyes:
We should do a dutch meet-up sometimewith all fellow Dutchies

I like to collect stuff, the DMM’s and Proxxon’s are collection of past 20 years.

Buuuut, unfortunately the lathe is gone, one of my best friends was very interested in the Proxxon lathe so I sold it to him couple months ago. After being here I see a lot potentials for a lathe, but I didn’t use the lathe last couple years so I thought I can make my friend happy and maybe stop him whining about it, now he whines about the mill sooo…

But still got enough Proxxon tools, the lathe was actually little bit too small for most things I wanted to build. So who knows maybe I get another one with bigger center distance but still in small form.
