Help me decide which LM should I pick, Rebar or Super Tool 300!

Hi, folks!

The time has come for me to acquire full sized, high quality multi tool for some up to heavy duty tasks!

My main choice at the moment is either black/regular ST300 or Rebar+Micra combo, both will cost around the same, single black Rebar is also not out of question, but given that for the price of combo Im basically getting Micra almost for free its not my top option.

My main concern is the size and usability of pliers.

Ive seen comparisons between Leatherman’s and it seems that pliers on ST300 are quite a bit bigger, actually the biggest ones so far and thus most likely more robust and usable on bolts/screws due to bigger surface of pliers/bigger jaws?

Does any one of you here owns both - Rebar and ST300? If so, Id like to see side-by-side comparison pictures of their pliers as well as hear from you regarding their pliers operability and pro’s/con’s against each other.

So far Im more looking at the Rebar+Micra combo, hard to resist, however I dont want to buy Rebar just to realise that its pliers arent physically big enough to grab some stuck bolt/screw once in a while, heck, even if its only once but situation requires it, it would suck to realise that at that moment, in that situation my fancy tool is worthless!

ST300 on the other hand is a monster of a tool, but neither Rebar nor ST300 will be used as my city EDC setup, so weight isnt much of an issue.

I looked at Ganzo G301B for short moment, but I realise that it neither comes with real warranty nor its pliers are going to stand up to abuse I might throw them into+no replaceable wire cutters which I find huge bonus.

Alright, forget about G301B, tell me about Rebar VS ST300 :D!

I own numerous LT’s. MUT, ST300, Charge TI ( very similar to the rebar),the Wave, Skeletool & a couple others. They all have pros & cons. The ST300 IS A BRUTE. It’s not pretty, it will not catch your eye or garner envious looks. Thats what the Charge Ti is for. The ST300 is designed for real work. Heavy & Ugly. I keep one on my work pack at all times. It fits perfectly in the Maxpedition single sheath holster.

I have the PST, the sidekick, the Supertool 300, and the Wave. The wave is the most versatile by far. I know it may be out of your budget, but it’s great.

I have the original… Had it for like 15 years. The wave & ST300 are all around $60… Check amazon.

The Rebar ( a few dollars cheaper )

I’ve been edc-ing leathermans since they first hit the market and have many different iterations of them. I suggest giving the Surge a look also; it’s basically a Wave on steroids (bigger pliers).

+1

Victorinox Swisstool. I am using mostly my Leatherman Charge because it is lighter, but when it comes to really hard work, you can not beat the Swisstool.

I own a Charge and a Supertool 300, also a Kick but you didn’t ask about that.

The ST300 is a big tool, but it’s big for a reason. You won’t find many jobs it can’t be used for.

Since the price is fairly comparable (when I was buying, because of postage, it was actually cheaper to buy the ST300) I would go for the ST300.

Thanks for sharing your epxeriences guys, much appreciated, Dale - thanks for informative pictures!

Im drifting towards ST300 against Rebar at the moment, however, I will have to go to local store to check out size differences and how well they fit in my hands, my hands are not small, but I wouldnt want to order ST300 and then realise that its too big and uncomfortable for me for most tasks.

I read elsewhere that ST300 is rather heavy and big and thus unless its your only tool/multi tool then you might as well have a real tool box with stand alone tools on you due to nature of heavy duty tasks youre gonna be throwing at your ST300/tools. I mean, if theres sh*tloads of heavy lifting then you might as well have real tool box near you with tools more appropriate for the job than ST300!
Im affraid that this might be the case in my usage scenarious. We’ll see…

So I will have to inspect Rebar and ST300 carefully in store to make up my own conclusions whether I would really need ST300 for the tasks Im up to or will Rebar be sufficient and 100% usable for me!

Hmm, decisions, decisions!

Depending what you are using it for…

ST300 all the way, but depends what you need it for and how much weight you can tolerate for carrying.

Ah, still havent seen them IRL, ST300 sounds like the way to go, BUT free Micra that comes with Rebar is also very tempting and also slightly cheaper!

Will see what my hands say when I handle them both.

Didnt compare them in real life, found great deal on ST300 for slightly less than 60$ shipped worldwide, couldnt be happier with my choice so far, now just have to wait for it to arrive 8) !

Now Im gonna either buy LM removable bit kit to get some additional bits for it, around 25$ shipped or buy Ganzo 201 and see how its bits hold up, in case I get Ganzo I will make sure it gets lots and lots of beating to see how it holds up with heavy use  !

Thank you all for showing your MT’s pics, sharing your experience and encouragement during process  !

The ST300 is a great robust tool only missing a scissor.

Great pliers, saw blade and fantastic knifeblades.

Have a ST300, a Wave, a Micra, a Squirt S4 (scissors), Squirt P4 (pliers).

Had a Surge, but it´s edges were too sharp, digging into my hand when doing heavier work.

A Thrunite Ti (or Maratac AAA) and the Squirt S4 fits unnoticably in my coinpocket in my jeans, great EDC:s!

Just some update, since Im checking MT’s again, decided to post here just in case someone finds this thread informative.

So, been owning ST300 for almost two years, havent used it much, but its good to know that I own this beast, its an ugly motherf*cker, but in a good way! Big also, pliers are impressive, even though I managed to leave slight pressed-marks on the endges of hard wire cutters when trying to cut in half tempered wooden screw, it still cuts like a champ!

Where my Wingman could only cut into half or two thirds of 4mm nail, but not cutting it in completely, which, I believe, would be possible if Wingmans handles were usable when doing tasks that require lots of force, Super Tool 300 did so without problems.
In both cases, however, I was wearing gloves, otherwise my palms, at least with Wingman, would have been destroyed due to its cool looking handles! The force applied was rather big given that I used both of my hands to slice through that nail, it was tough one!
Love the design on Wingman, but that thing is intentionally made uncomfortable to use during heavy tasks, otherwise it takes a beating pretty well!

I was, however, suprised that metal on ST300 screwdrivers wasnt hard and it was fairly easy to slightly bend/bruise corners of its smallest flathead. Then again, I suppose I didnt know what to expect from MT’s(when lacking experience, I tend to expect the impossible from tangible goods, Ive become realistic in this regard and laid back, not so anal so to say  ), after all, the screw I was working on was really tight, slippery and not perfectly sized for the smallest flathead and if they had made smallest flathead of harder metal, it could have snapped in my case.

So, overall, I have learned in practice alot regarding multi tools and their limits, they are great to have when you have use for them!

I guess, if not for my lazyness, one of these days I could do individual small reviews on all multi tools that I own and then do some comparison between them also.
