help with knife: Ganzo G704, Enlan EL-02B & EL-04, or Sanrenmu 7063AUC

I need help deciding on a knife. I have narrowed it down to the following choices:
Ganzo G704-G
Enlan Bee EL-02B
Enlan Bee EL-04
Sanrenmu 7063AUC-LH

I’ve heard nothing but good things about the Sanrenmu and it’s axis lock. I believe the 7063 is the replacement for the 763, but this knife has the smallest blade and I’m not crazy about the looks. I really like the looks of the Ganzo the best of the ones I listed, but have read their lock is hit or miss and their blade steel is soft. The EL-02B and EL-04 are dang near identical. I’ve read that their locks are safer but more difficult to use, plus they are kinda plain to me. What I really want is a Sanrenmu 962, but they are expensive. Sooo, any suggestions?

I would choose the G704 or the EL-04. They have the best ergonomics IMO.

The axis lock of the EL04 usually comes with stronger omega springs so it’s not as easy to manipulate as the G704.
I have no problem with the balde steel of my Ganzos (440C) I can’t notice any difference to my 8Cr13MoV blades.
If that matters the EL04 is a bit thinner than the G704 so it feels slightly better in the pocket.

The SMR 7063 is not in the same category because it’s much smaller than the rest.

Since you like it...Go for the Ganzo 704. It's one of their "flagship" model and proven a worthy knife. Don't worry what you read about the steel quality. ( I only have a 712 and the steel is fine).

Have you checked out the Ganzo 720 in black, orange, and army green? I want one badly. https://www.fasttech.com/products/1901/10001878/2094202

First of all, if you do not want a small knife the srm is not an option. Now, from the three others, i have the g704 and the el04. The el04 is newest than the el02 and perhaps can have better implementation i do not know. The el04mct is beautiful knife, anatomic handle of micarta and a simple but wonderful blade, thick blade and very strong but a bit small. The axis lock is not smooth and has a very tensional omega springs but… (And again) engages a lot more than the ganzo`s axis lock. The g704 has a anatomic handle and a beautiful blade shape (a bit small like the el04, i want to say is not like the el01, el08, or inron my803 for example), perhaps less strong than the el04 due to its shape but very tough too. Both are good choices, both.
I do not like than ganzo write 440c because you do not know if it is 9cr13mov or what, and would must be better than the 8cr13mov and if is equal… bad thing.
I would choose the el04 or the g704 from that four.
The g720 seems well too…

I do like the g720 as well as the EL-04mct. Too many choices

I noticed you linked to FastTech for the knives. I am already in the 26th day waiting on Sanrenmu 7010 from FastTech. Could be another month all things considered.

I ordered an EL01 from Ebay vendor hellogiftshop (who is also a member here) and the shipping is lightning fast compared to FastTech (10-12 days) ..OK maybe two weeks, but I received my EL01 in 10 days.

I plan on ordering a G720 from hellogiftshop after Feb 26 when the Chinese all go back to work after the New Year Holiday. Granted, I'll pay less than $2 more for the knife but will have it light years ahead of FastTech's slow-tech shipping.

Just a thought for you to consider. Some can wait to save couple bucks. Oh, and you get tracking for free with hellogiftshop. And no, I'm no affiliated anyway with his shop. Just appreciate his rapid shipping compared to SlowTechs...

I have the Enlan EL-04MCT, SRM7063AUC-LI, and Ganzo G712 and 720-OR with the G717-OR and G704-BL ordered.
I have a couple more SRM7063’s and an older LB-763 the SRM Axis lock on those models is by far the best on any of the others that I have smooth and not too strong an spring.

The Enlan EL-04MCT is basically the EL-04 but with Micarta scales, great grip without ripping pockets. The Ω springs were much too strong to be comfortable, for me anyway, so I took the scales off and bent the Ω springs so they’d have a weaker effect on the lock bar. Not difficult if you have some Torx bits, T6 and T8 if I remember correctly, it might all look complicated but it’s not. While I had the blade out I stuck in some phosphor bronze washers, 20 thou. per side, oiled everything and a dab of Molybdenum grease (black and very slippery). This has resulted in a blade that can be shaken out and locks firmly. You don’t have to do this to have a very good knife but I had the bits and pieces so I used them. The lock on the Ganzo G712 isn’t too bad but the G720 is a bit too stiff and I’ll go down the same route as the Enlan soon.

Ganzo quality control can be a bit hit and miss, both mine have had pivot screws (one each side on a Ganzo) that turn easily with a bit of force but some people have had one side that will not turn, not even with heat and lots of force, meaning that you can’t strip the knife properly. The blade tang on my G720 is machined slightly oval in a part that should be round, it will be easy enough to remedy but it means the blade is a bit reluctant to pass a point near where it is closed (about ¾”) then really snaps shut. It isn’t as noticeable when opening because it’s about the point where your thumb has the most power on the thumb stud. The Ω springs are too strong to let the blade swing free comfortably although it can.
I haven’t heard anything bad about Ganzo’s 440C but given the optional quality control it’s a good job that the steel is bought in.
I’ve been so impressed by the G720, even with it’s flaws, that I’ve just ordered a G717 and a G704.

The clearance between the blade and liners is amazingly tight for a production knife and stayed like this even after adjusting the blade to be a little bit looser.

So I ordered the 717 and 704 so I’d have a better idea of the quality and fit/finish, two knives isn’t really enough to give an overall picture - four will be better.

I do have 6 G620’s but they are a different type of knife completely, and a separate series, less costly and assisted opening - all but one was fine out of the box and the sixth I stripped, greased the A/O spring and re-assembled then it was fine.

FastTech have absolutely no control over what happens to the packages once they’ve shipped it - every Chinese vendor is at the mercy of the postal services. At least FastTech let you choose carriers, though your choice is limited with knives to postal services that will carry them. FastTech is my first stop for knives because the price is usually the best.
EDIT - I just realised that the shipping to the U.K. would be completely different than to the U.S.A. so not comparable.

I think I have all knives, which are named here in the thread (only the Ganzo G720 is missing and I have a SRM763 and not the new version7063). I have ordered more as 5 of each Enlan (EL01, 02, 02B, 04, 04MCT). The Enlans are awesome, only the the Axislock has some sharp edges.
The Ganzo Axislockscrew hasn't any sharp edges. The Inron is a big one, but every knife I got has some scratches.

If you want a smaller blade, the SRM7063 is great. I like the EL02B, because it has a stonewashed finish blade. If you want something special go for the EL04 MCT - I like it much more as the EL04, because the handle ha s a nice shape and like the color - every EL04MCT handle looks a little bit different.

I have both the G704 and EL-04. I like both of them. The EL-04 has nicer G10 but in mine the blade is very slightly off center when closed. The G704 has nice jimping but the scales aren’t finished as well as the EL-04. Honestly I would just get both

David from Hellogiftshop is a great guy and I do recommend purchasing from him.

I’ll have to check out Hellogiftshop. I’ve narrowed it down to the G704/G720 and the EL-04MCT. I decided to pick up a smaller SRM 6261 (PR 761) which is the wood handled axis lock version that’s about the same size as the 763. It’s a little more $ than the 763/7063, but I like wood handles.

The SRM 6261 will come badged as a Land but don’t worry that’s what SRM used to call it’s premium knives. The Axis lock is very much like the SRM 763/7063 that is a good thing.

If you like wood handle check out the wonderful Enlan Bee L05-1 knife. The lastest version come in zebrano wood.

well its a done deal. I just ordered the G720 from fasttech for $20.91 with my 10% off coupon. And I have the SRM 6261 coming as well. Thanks for everybody’s help. Next up with be the Enlan EL-04MCT.

Great Price ! What color G720 did you get?

Army green. I’m more of a hunter/tactical guy. I thought about the orange but held off

Yeh, I hear ya. Orange looks nice and has lots of bling but the army green blends right in. Good choice.

I got both the g720 orange and the 717 in black. The quality feels slightly better on the 720 mainly because its blade is so much heavier. However I prefer the 717 its more knife shaped, if that makes sense. You’ll love it.

Marc.
