Help Wurkkos choose a clip for the new TS10

Which clip would you want?

If you want to suggest a different clip, please post a link where to buy it.

imo
Wurkkos will most likely use a clip that is already available. They probably will not design and manufacture a custom clip.

note
the new TS10 clip groove is on the tailcap, I dont actually know if clip 3 would allow tailstanding (my guess is it will not)

4 Thanks

Clip 4.

I have no use for two-way clips and dislike how they add bulk. I also like clips with a good contour that fits my hand. Clip 4 is the clear winner.

Clip 3’s lip is too small and its shape is less comfortable in the hand than clip 4, and it is not low profile.

Clip 1 is the worst of the bunch. It has no angled ramp at the tip so slipping onto sweat pants would require 2 hands, and it sticks out the most.

Clip 4 also looks like it has the most metal in contact with the light at the end of the clip. It probably grips more securely than the other clips.

3 Thanks

Although clip 4 looks the best (IMO) and seems to be the most Urkelnomic in the hand, what bothers me is that there is a 90° ridge right at the base of the clip that can stop the clip from fully seating on a pocket without some fiddling.

Clip 3 has a smoother transition and I have never had a problem getting that style to seat fully on a pocket. It doesn’t feel great holding it though, so there is definitely a trade-off.

Clips 1 & 2 are terrible though.

You could be right.

  • I don’t have the HD10 clip so can’t be sure. On some clips, a ridge at the base of the clip mount may prevent fully seating the clip, but sometimes it doesn’t. The ones with issues are where the slot for the clip to fit over something (such as a pants pocket) isn’t quite wide enough. From the picture, the HD10 clip looks very low profile and might have this issue.
    • NOTE: for lights where this is a problem, it can often be fixed in a few minutes by bending the clip open wider to open the slot, and then using pliers to add another bend further down the clip to help the tip of the clip stay tight against the light.
  • I have some old Zebralight clips which look almost identical to the HD10 clip except that instead of the 90 degree ridge where the clip meets the light, they have a smoothly angled slope so there’s nothing to prevent the clip from fully seating.

I have clip 3 and have used it on my TS10s, but I wasn’t impressed.

  • The tip of the clip sits in the concave portion of the light and there’s not enough lip sticking out to easily slip it onto sweat pants one-handed.
  • Clip 3 doesn’t have great retention strength probably for the same reason. The light doesn’t feel that secure when clipped to the side of a pocket or pants.

What I look for in a clip:

  • One-way clip. I never attach my light to a ball cap so have no use for 2-way clips. That said, it’s pretty easy to convert a 2-way clip to a 1-way clip with a Dremel and some pliers. I do it frequently.
  • Good retention. Clips aren’t much use if they don’t grip securely to what you attach them to. The whole point of a clip is so I can stick it to the edge of my sweatpants or a pocket and feel that my light is secure and won’t accidentally fall off. Some clips might look and feel great, but still fail because they don’t grip securely enough. Often because the tip of the clip is too small or the metal is too thin.
  • Bezel-down carry. Preferably, deep carry, but doesn’t have to be.
  • Low profile. I don’t like clips that make a light feel much fatter than it is.
  • Comfortable contour. The clip can be thought of as part of the light. A light should still feel good in the hand even with the clip attached.
  • Aesthetics. I like my clips to look good.

true, that is one of the reasons I do not use that clip

someone posted a small 3d printed wedge that creates a ramp to smooth out that ridge.. I cant find the link atm

The other reason I dont like the HD10 clip
is that the tip of the blade rides on the head

It does, but as I unscrew the head my fingers push the clip out of the way.

true, clip 3 does not have strong retention

I dont have any trouble putting clip 3 over a pocket seam one handed because I wear pants similar to dockers and slacks, that have thinner material than sweats or jeans

clip 3 is more to my liking than clip 4

  1. because clip 3 does not have the ridge clip 4 has where the arms circle the body of the light

  2. I dont have to lift the tip of clip 3 when unscrewing the head..

otoh, it is possible clip 3 wont allow tailstanding with the new TS10. I think clip 4 wont have that problem..

I dont really mind which clip Wurkkos chooses, as Im prepared to find a clip that works for me.. and Im also OK with carrying the TS10 without a clip.

All I ask is that Wurkkos not install the clip on the light, because it will scratch the light.. I want to be able to decide for myself whether to do that

I wish I could remember what it is specifically and where I got it, but I have a clip on a few of my TS10s that is quite similar to #4, but with no right angles or shelf. It works great for the TS10. BTW, I set it up so there is enough clearance to where it does not scrape anything during battery changes… Clearance of the Thickness of a piece of printer paper.

I will see if I can figure out where I got them. I seem to remember that @jon_slider was the one who recommended these to me.

That is the one… THX! :+1:

It’s a ZebraLight H52 clip. Unfortunately, last I checked, these clips are no longer available anywhere, and even the last few stores with remaining stock ran out a few years ago.

ZebraLight now uses an unappealing 2-way clip on their H5 models. I wonder if they could be convinced to make more of their old clip, but I doubt it.

I really need a turorial for bending, reshaping clips: Which steal to use? Heating, bending, annealing.

Unless you’re doing something unusual, most users here are just bending the clip with pliers and or a vice, likely using plastic or rubber on the jaws to protect the clip from getting too scratched, you needn’t overthink it.

I voted #3 as my HD10 sometimes catches on the seam of my jeans pocket where that “step” is. Either of the BLF user suggested clip designs (3 or 4) would be preferable to the Wurkkos suggestions.

Clip 4 looks like the best option, with a minor concern regarding the 90 degree ridge at the base.

I don’t wear baseball caps so have no need of a two-way clip, they add bulk and things to snag. It’s like a magnet in the tail, some swear by them, I find them more of an inconvenience.

Voted for clip 4. A clip that sits tight against the body matters most to me, fewer snags and an easier draw. Clip 3 looks good too.

A decision has been made to use clip #2:

for anyone interested there is one H52 clip (the better version of clip #4) on ebay

and a few clip #3 available from Lumintop, but this clip may not allow tailstanding
(fwiw, there was a cheaper version of clip #3 on Aliex some time ago, but it was thinner metal with sharper edges.. not recommended)

thanks to everyone who participated in the poll.. I hope you find a clip solution you are happy with

Clip 3 seems to look best for me.
Clip 1 is a no go.

SIGH… Thanks for the link, but I bought mine from Zebra then Nkon for around $4 each. But, then, they were not Titanium… Of course, back then I was paying about $3/lb for ground beef… not the $8 it is today.

That’s too bad. I think that clip sucks.

It’s a 2-way clip that doesn’t even have a ramp so clipping it to anything requires 2 hands. Lame.

I can see why they chose it though. It’s pretty similar to the original TS10 clip.
