HG2 vs 30Q

This is an interesting review of two popular batteries.

I watched the video for the full 12min 25sec and when I clicked the back button I didn’t get the 12 1/2 minutes of my life back.

LOL

I don’t have any HG2’s, I want to get some.

I did run some tests the other day where I connected various cells to a dust buster, it pulls over 10 amps and unlike LED’s is a constant resistance.

The best cells were HE2/4’s. They only drooped to 3.6v

30Q went down to 3.5v

GA’s went down to 3.3v

I forgot the rest but this lines up exactly with what I have seen in lights.

I like HE4’s yellow color, unfortunately its only 2600mah.

Rewrapping 18650s is super easy. You can make them any color you like!

Your constant praise of the lg he2/4 has peaked my interest in getting some just to see. I think imr has them for like 4.50 a piece right now. Is the runtime in lights noticable between the he series and the Samsung 30q? Since it has 500 more mah?. I’ve had good luck with 30q and ga cells. But makes sense the ga had lower voltage running s cell at its max lowers the capacity. I may have to buy a couple to test out. I just like the higher mah high drain cells. I figure once they wear out they will be in the 2500mah range and still useable

Well when you purchase over 150 HE2/4’s you tend to use them a lot lol. It just keeps surprising me that they outperform all the newer cells that I have tried to date.

That said while they do net slightly higher amp draw then other options, I find that I generally use GA’s in the lights I actually use. I simply don’t need that little bit of extra power in the real world and the extra runtime is great obviously.

30Q’s are a great middle ground between power and capacity.

For myself this was an interesting discussion on the two batteries as would be used in high current use.

My use is not for vaping or any other use with more than a 10 amp draw. What I am concerned with is how a batteries design and chemistry can maintain voltage for my use in flashlights. I find all information useful.

I do vape but at low wattages have a evod pro takes 1 18650 the manual says to use 20 amp battery. But the lowest coil for it currently is .5 ohm and in the ohms calculation on a fresh off the cell charger the max it can hit is like 8.3 amps so pretty much just all my flashlight batteries are interchangable with it.
But I won’t buy hg2 anymore unless they are on a great sale. The 30q is cheaper by 1-1.50 and is more powerful. And what lg doesn’t tell you is to get that 3000 rating they discharge it down to 2.0 its in their spec sheet for the cell. Kind of decieving if you ask me. Samsung msds shows its gets its 3000 rating down to 2.5. I mean what device can really use power below 2.8 under load also its the most faked cell on the market if your lucky and get a good fake its a he2/4 underneath. They do that so the outer appearance looks like a hg2 pretty much have to unwrap it or discharge it to tell

These are good too:

This is interesting

Rewrapping is easy you can use a blow dryer to do. Search it in YouTube.

Some vape units will eventually wear the wrapper on a cell and you rewrap it to keep it safe. When you purchase from imr batteries they always throw a couple wraps in for free. There main cliental is vapors. I’ve had good experiences with them. They actually have the Samsung 35e and vtc6. On popular cells like the hg2 30q they buy like 30,000 cells at a time

Until gearbest finds a new shipping method for America I highly doubt they will be getting orders from Americans. They went from free to $2 shipping and now its $20 you pay as much for shipping as you do 4 cells. But there are some american vendors who have those cells. I’ve had nothing but good luck with Sony cells. I have some Sony laptop pulls that refuse to die

Vaping is one thing, flashlights another

Speaking of flashlights and different driver types:

  • for fet dd drivers the best of those is HE2( yet 25r is a bit better), HE4 int. resistance is bigger than HE2 and its better to use HG2 instead
30q is better than HG2 cause of its int. resistance, but the difference isnt big enough, 100-200ma tops

For buck driers the situation is vise versa, LG performs a bit better

All LG have not that flat top so they could be used in series , Samsung cant be use as they are

Since i am a MTL “digital” smoker ( as of 1 year already) i`ve found the best battery for my needs to be Sanyo GA

You can find a tutorial here:

Thank you Speed4goal for your comments; I have found the vape community to be very helpful in my understanding the potential and use of lithium ion batteries regardless of how used.

Here’s a good video that shows how it’s done. Plenty more on YouTube and the forums. Cheap and easy! I got my wraps and insulators from Illumn, but you can get them pretty much anywhere.

Banggood seems to have no problem shipping Li-Ion cells to the US for free, so I’ve been using them.

Thanks Guys for the battery rewrapping information

I bought 10 wrappers ‘just in case’, and I now have 2 only a few months later thanks to my vaping Nephew :open_mouth: Maybe if I get hot pink ones he won’t ask me for any more :stuck_out_tongue:
