Hi BLF! New member here (and humbly seeking some UX/layout advice for my 532nm laser project)

Hi everyone, Dan here.

I’m excited to finally join BLF! I’ve always admired the highly detailed and visually impactful storefronts in the flashlight community (like Hank’s or Simon’s sites). While my main interest is slightly different—I focus strictly on high-power 532nm green laser pointers—I know the members here have an incredible eye for what makes a light-emitting product look professional and trustworthy.

I’m currently working on a dedicated, single-item site for a specific 532nm green pointer setup ( light-tracer.com ). Because it’s literally just one host and diode combination, I’m really struggling with the homepage UI.

Without a huge catalog of products to display, my homepage feels a bit “empty” or underwhelming compared to standard flashlight vendors. It lacks that immediate “wow” factor when you land on it.

Since I’m new here, I wanted to introduce myself and also ask if some of you design-savvy flashaholics could take a quick look?

  1. Does the initial layout immediately turn you off or look sketchy?
  2. How can I make a single-product page look more engaging right when it loads?
  3. Do the specs on the page read clearly for someone accustomed to standard flashlight metrics?

Don’t hold back—I really need some honest critiques to improve the vibe. Looking forward to learning from this community. Thanks!

It’s nice to see you, Light_tracer!

Welcome

I can’t get the linked site to even open… ERROR: This page is not working

I tried again and it opened. The video won’t play though.

First of all welcome

Kind of looks like the whole site is straight out of claude code
You know you can edit the initial
Furthermore Most of the words on the side have no meaning.

there is a lot of text that says nothing like:
“Most Powerful” i’m sure it is not.
“Military Grade” What does it even mean
“Premium aluminum alloy” wow like “aerospace aluminum”
“ultra high lumen” i’m sure you meant to say intensity or CD
“Tactical LED Laser Pointer”

then there are a lot of button that don’t do anything.

Followed by very fake looking reviews

followed by BS tech spacks like
“<5mW (Class 3R)” its burning but also <5mW lol
oh it is “Aircraft Aluminum Alloy” lol

Operating Temperature -10°C for a DPSS laser…

To be honest looks 100% like a vibe coded side for a drop shipping scam. Now is it?

emdach

you know you can customize Caluds default style guide so it is not that obvious??!

Yes the whole thing looks like it was copied from one of the web sites that deals in cheap Chinese lights of different kinds. It is almost like I have seen it before at some point.. Maybe when I was looking for cheap laser devices??

If you are really impressed by the pointer, It deserves a complete re-write.

BTW, Why did you decide to market this particular pointer…honestly?

Agree with the comments of @six7 and @Mandrake50–too many unverifiable or false claims, and too little data. If you were an expert in lasers, you would include the basic data that every serious buyer cares about, which includes:

  • Optical power rating in mW–min/max/typical values. You should know that non-white light sources are not measured by units derived from lumens.
  • Beam divergence angle
  • Duty cycle
  • Presence/absence of IR filter due to DPSS architecture
  • Optic material

As a hobbyist, I couldn’t care less about the aesthetics of a website, as long as it works and is easy to navigate. What I do care about is the quantifiability and legitimacy of product claims, which is the main thing missing from your site.

Lasers do interest me (a lot), but I need some more info before buying any “non-toy” laser.

  • Source type: is it direct diode, DPSS or other converted source?
  • WL: you mentioned 532nm, but what about a range? Spectrometer plot is a plus.
  • Power: how many mw? How was it tested?
  • Optics: Acrylic, multi element glass or aspheric?
  • Beam profile: what is the divergence and near field beam profile?

Without those information, there is no differentiation from Chinese green pointers for me…
