I do a fair bit of outdoor night grilling, steaks mostly, but a lot of other stuff as well, and usually I use a cheap headlamp with a better light in my hand or pocket.
I started adding lumins because I felt I couldn’t see well enough, but think it washes out the the pink in chicken or red in meat so I have to go by feel and time.
I’m thinking I need a much higher CRI in a headlamp bright enough so I don’t need a second light.
Any suggestions? All thoughts appreciated. Best or budget options are welcome.
Hi cri really shines when cooking meat.
I agree with bmengineer YLP Panda 2M CRI, or a Zebralight hi cri are both great choices. I just picked up a zebralight h604c and have the YLP panda 2m cri and love them both.
Wow the Fireflies looks like just the right amount of kill!!… Wonder if it, with the 21700, seems heavy, or would flop around? Maybe there is a Fireflies coupon code somewhere.
The lower the k temp the less bugs you attract. Nobody has as many high cri and
low k warm temp options as Armytek. Wizard Pro Warm or some of their other lights in warm.
Why do you think the AT are HiCri?
I think they are simply Warm Tints but do not really seem to be HiCri to my eye?
I also do not recall them talking about them as if they are.
They aren’t high-CRI but the tint is always solid on their “warm” versions.
Basically YLP if you like the form factor and high-CRI is very important, Zebra if you want a light that works better for handheld, and Armytek if magnetic tail/USB charging/etc. is worth giving up high-CRI for you.
I have no proof. Based on use and observations the armytek wizard pro in warm with the xhp50 shows pretty good colors. Cree’s website shows that the warmer xhp50 is available in 70 80 and 90 CRI. I guess I’m just assuming that armytek is ordering them “right” with a 90 cri. Again the colors look pretty damn good to me. But no proof. So without testing we don’t know.
Hi All, Thanks for all the great suggestions. I’m feeling partial to Fireflies PL47. It says it has blue aux bulbs in it, it looks cool, but why are they there? It seams like red aux light would be more useful for a head light? Am I missing something?
Hmmm got it thanks Koziy. Maybe Fireflies would switch them out for red ones. I just emailed them to find out if theywould. Are there different quality red LED’s like the normal LED’s or is it basically just one thing that everyone uses?
