Highly moddable, multi emitter flashlight, for different UV wavelengths

Hi all,

One of my rabbit holes is glass. Pretty glass. Carnival glass, Uranium glass, Cadmium glass, Manganese glass, Selenium, …

I would like to get (or build) a flashlight that has 3-4 emitters I can choose from or, as a second best, rotate though to include 365, 385, and 395nm. There are quite a few flashlights on AliExpress that illustrate the general idea. The attached image is one such example picked at random.

I do not think I can find exactly what I need straight out of the box. Are there any suggestions of how I should approach this adventure?

The above suggestion is def the best option, but probably overkill (especially given the price). TBH I would just get 3x S2+ (or T3) in the desired wavelengths, and bundle them together with rubber bands. You’d need to source the 385/395nm emitters outside Convoy.

Couple of things. Firstly I am glad to learn that I’m not the only one who is rabbit hole accident prone.

Secondly, I think I have to agree. And after all, one can never have too many S2+s.

You have a few options in my mind. Someone linked my light (and Luxwad’s excellent review!) earlier but it has 255nm, 310nm, and 365nm rather than the three UVA wavelengths you’re looking for.

Another option is this light that Colorgems offers. You can buy just the base light for €90 and equip it with multiple Convoy S21 heads of your desired wavelength. Highly recommend this option since all my conversations with the owner have been very pleasant.

Last option (cheapest) is just to modify the light you linked by reflowing the emitters. While I haven’t taken apart this specific light, I found during R&D for my own light that these types of lights typically have very simple circuitry. Likely multiple linear drivers. They have to since it’s 3 or 4 emitters in a single body. Not much room!
