Hereās another item I found at the ā3ā price (75% off)
These were $80 originally and caught my eye when they went to $60.06. This is a Lithium Battery Booster for your car, it is supposed to be able to jump start a car with a weak battery. Letās just assume it does for the time being.
If it actually works $20 is a very good deal. Here is a quick review of itās features.
There are 2 ways to charge it. Port on the left for house charging with the provided brick. The port on the left can be used to charge it from the cigarette lighter socket.
That port is also an output port to jump start the car in one of 2 ways, thru the cigarette lighter or with the provided short jumper cables.
On the other side of the unit there is flashlight and a 2.1A USB port. This unit can double as a power bank! I estimate about 10 lumens on the light.
But enough of this!
What I really want to know is WHATāS INSIDE
6 phillips head screws hold the back cover on and they come right off
As soon as I saw this, I could see that it was built like a drill pack. 6 - 18650 cells wired in series and there seems to be a BMS circuit here. The circuit board on the left seems to have 6 identical sets of components that probably monitor the voltage of each cell during charging and discharging.
I canāt see exactly what these 6 cells are as they are wrapped together as one unit and I do not want to take this apart any further. I donāt know if I could stuff all this stuff back together and have it fit in the case. I would think that the cells would certainly be IMRās to handle the current in boosting and survive the rough use something like this would see.
Comparing the color of the cells, they could very well be Samsung 20Qās. I am holding one up for comparison.
At this point, the easiest way for me to gauge the capacity of these cells is to charge one individual cell with my OPUS BT-C3100 and then discharge it, measuring the discharge capacity. If it is around 2000mAh I will call these Samsung 20Qās
It will take several hours before I know and I will post the results.
At only $20 if anyone can find these, it could be that this is a great bargain. I was impressed and surprised with the seeming quality of this unit. Glad I bought 3. (those 3 cost less than the original price for one of $80)
Hi dchomak,
I read this thread with great interest and am always amazed at the great prices and great amounts you buy! what do you do with them? sorry - might have missed it if mentioned before in the thread.
Well in the case of this booster I figured one for me, one for my wife and one to play with.
The Maglites I will sell at my cost to BLFerās for modding. I have already PMād a famous member and given him first crack at a number of the Xenon Mags.
Each year all family members can expect at least 1 flashlight for Christmas. Also I have a number of friends that share our deals with each other, etc, etc.
With all of that, I do end up with a lot of stuff left over. When we move all I can say is we will have one heck of a tag sale (garage sale)
Itās true though, somehow I am really fortunate at deal finding. I didnāt mention this, but when checked out with the 3 booster banks, after the girl rang them up, she said to me āI can give $50 off this bill if you open a Home Depot credit cardā
I exclaimed $50, yesterday (when I bought the 4 cases of Maglites) the girl offered me $25, which I accepted. That was
my second card
To that she said I can give you $50, you are allowed up to 3 cards. I accepted and will now have 3 Home Depot cards.
Here is a copy of my receipt, those 3 power boosters ended up costing me only a little over $10
Notice how she had to fudge the bill to give me the $50. She discounted 2 of the boosters an additional $10 each and the third one by $5 to give me the extra $25. At the bottom of the bill an additional $25 for opening the credit card.
So I have lots of the Xenon Mags (good for modding). I didnāt buy them for myself, so anyone that wants some can PM me.
The cost to you will be my cost + tax + shipping. If I can accommodate all the requests, the more lights shipped per box, the lower shipping cost per light. On the other hand I would like to give anyone that want some to have a chance. Letās see how it goes. After the PMās come in I will sort it all out.
I am posting this offer in the HD thread first, then later to the general forum
thanks for the generous gesture! and i should keep my eyes out for homedepot credit card deals then. out here in new york home depot hardly has any 03 deals i am able to find.
Speaking of the EGO string trimmers, this is a 1 day dealā¦ā¦ā¦.TODAY only. Today being April 15th maybe this tool is fitting in case you want to āblow offā the IRS. (I wouldnāt do it)
2 - 200 Lumen headlamps
8 flashlights and 2 headlamps. I know the sign says $12,00, but they rang up at $4.53. Includes 28 AAA cells!
4 softgell flashlights, very elegent to the touch for the basic 3 - AAA and 9 emitter type. They also glow in the dark.
I know the price says $8.00, but they rang up for $2.53.
What really sold me on them though is the batteries are already installed, good for lazy folk like me.
How did I know they would ring up at $2.53? I came across 1 once at another store. The only reason this big batch hadnāt sold before is because they were mismarked.
As I said, the batteries are included.
BTW, that same sort of light is available at LOWES for $4.97 each! WITHOUT the batteries
Digital tire gauge, inclues flashlight and spotting light to find valve stem.
some other stuff
On the left and right those 4 pack of safety lights rang up for $1.53
All of the above came from my local store, where I got all the twin packs of the Husky Lights for $5.03 each. The Husky lights were way in the back of the store at the restrooms. All of these latest lights were in the very front most part of the store right next to the Commercial checkouts. When I brought the displays up to the checkouts and told them ahead of time what the prices were going to be, the 2 checkout girls went nuts. They had been looking at that display for weeks with the wrong prices. They wanted to know HOW DID I KNOW. I just smiled.
I let them take what they wanted before they checked me out. They took a lot.
Picked up a pair of those lanterns, six incan mags, and four LED mags at the Windham, Maine orange borg. I found the lanterns a bit hard on the eyes so I frosted the plastic shroud on one of them with white spray paint and itās much less intrusive. Now to maybe improve the tint; Richardās 219C promo comes to mind.
I kind of envy those of you who can find those deals. My last visit to HD those lanterns were $9.83 and all gone today. It seems the locations in the Cleveland area have their own odd pricing process. I picked up a Defiant 3D ArmorMax for $14.06. The price had been reduced nine weeks prior and rang up at $14.06. While I was looking around I saw items that had previously been on the āclearanceā end cap now among the regular price items with shelf tags proclaiming āNEWā. This included several models of Defiant and Husky with the two-pack Husky package among them.
Try āglass frosting sprayā. Should let a lot more light through than spray paint. Iāve used it on a 4AA Coleman lantern and the difference is night and day.
ReGman, now I will have to look for the lantern. I donāt remember seeing them. 3 C cells means it would be easy to convert to 18650, if they can fit. If there is enough room you could hook up several 18650ās in parallel and charge them with a USB charging board.
kyfishguy, what day did you find Mags? I know when I was traveling some stores had not yet reduced to the 3 price.
All the stores around here already had and every store is out of stock. Some due to me.
So the stores that go to the 3 price later could still have stock. There still is hope for some here to get these.
I forgot to report the results of my cell test on the Black and Decker āPower to Goā. A single cell tested out to 2060mAh on my OPUS. So I would say they are Samsung 20Qās Turns out, had I read the manual I would have known that this unit is specād out at 2Ah.
Yesterday I picked this up for a friend.
Ridgid 18V Hammer Drill plus Driver, 2 - 4Ah batteries, Fast Charger and carry bag. I had seen these in multiple stores.
And I forgot about these, a popup lantern and flashlight. 2 pieces, the flashlight also can be used as a worklight
tekwyzrd try not to get discouraged. Just keep at it, and remember when you see a tag with an āx6ā price it could ring up for less and if youāre really lucky, a penny,
I donāt really have a (well-)functioning cordless drill, so Iām tempted, but some of the reviews indicate that the drill only works for a short while with the 1.5aH batteries that it comes with, and that the 4aH batteries are better.
However, while thereāre 2-packs of the āoldā 4aH RIDGID batteries, but no one seems actually have those. But, there is an āoldā 4aH battery+charger for $99.
Ok, but they also have this combo hammer drill + saw:
for $199, which includes a 4aH battery and a 2aH battery (I donāt really need either the saw or the āhammerā part of the hammer drill).
So what do you all think?
As I mentioned, so far Iāve done the āwhen in doubt, chicken outā thing, and got a corded drill for now, but Iām still eyeing the cordless drill.
I checked the Auburn, Maine store on Tuesday and they had a tag for the LED mags at the ā3ā price but no stock on the shelf. I cleaned out Windham on Friday. The Windham store also had about a dozen of the Defiant 3D armormax lights for around $14 (the ā6ā price) but Iām not sure theyāre worth that. Iāll check in a month or two to see if they drop to around $7.
