How do you make your flashlights less slippery?

Use a lanyard! :grinning:

I’ve dropped too many flashlights over the years and now always have a lanyard attached to them and USE it especially when outside. And I cautiously (read annoyingly) remind family members to do the same.

But for what you’re actually asking about, I think shrink tubing would be a good option. I’ve used that on plier handles and other stuff to help with slipperiness and comfort. I’d be cautious of any type of tape since it could be a sticky mess when removed and made worse from the heat of the FW3A.

Looks like 1 inch shrink tubing would work:

I use silicon rings on my flashlights. size 7 for 18650s and size 9-10 for 21700s
You can get them on Aliexpress for cheap.

Buy road bicycle inner tubes for race bikes. The tyres are tiny. Plus they are cheap.

I’ve wrapped a bunch of lights in para-cord just to add color and change the feel .
Women’s hair bungees , super think wrist band rubber bands,

One of my favorites is a neon blue rubber thingy that gives you grip off of a ballpoint Pentel pen …Added to the BLF stainless steel AAA/ Nichia light . Great looking light that feels great too .
Crazy hard to get it on but it’s totally worth the effort

Great ideas guys…
I went to the local hardware store and they had some anti-slip tape for using on stairs. I didn’t like the feel of it, it was too rough, so that’s a no go. I want something more grippy, but not like sandpaper feel.
Paracord is not my cup of tea either. Those shrink tubes/bicycle tubes could be interesting!
And now I’m looking more into it, I am more leaning towards another rubber grip ring, or those silicon rings p8246 mentioned.

Appreciate all the ideas!

What you bought was the aluminum grit version of the Safeway Traction Tape that is commonly used on skateboards.

My apologies as I wasn’t clear enough with my first link!

What you want is the Rubberized version which they also advertise as ā€œResilient No-Grit, Non-Abrasive Textured Vinylā€

Notice at the bottom of the linked page that they offer a 6" x 12" sheet of black tape for $8.95usd. Obviously the rolls are much less expensive per square inch, but trust me, if you buy a roll of say 4" x 10’ at ~$25usd or less, you’ll find so many applications for it around your home that you’ll run out within a couple of years or less.

Nice! Yeah. I think rubberized is what I would prefer instead of the coarser anti-slip. Somebody reached out via PM willing to send a rubber tactical ring specifically for the FW3A. I gues that would be my first step. If not enough, I’ll look at some silicone rings or perhaps stil some of the ruberized tape

The rubber gaskets I use are installed in water meter connections. 5/8", 3/4" and 1" and I just pick up the discarded gaskets out in the unit parking lot and wash them off. Your utility department may have the same thing or you may contact their warehouse supervisor to get you some or their vendor. I got the idea from the pictured P60 host.

I’ve used the knotless paracord wrap on some lights, with the inner strands stripped out so the cord lays flat. Once you get it down and make them ultra tight so they don’t slip, they work great, and I think they look pretty cool too.

For holding with your teeth:

That could be a pretty good business… making a flashlight-cozy to order. :joy::fire::ok_hand::100::joy:

Well you can’t make them ahead of time and slip them on, you have to actually wrap it and tighten it on the light, then cut the cord tails. Then if you remove it, it can’t be re-applied.

I did consider wrapping some of my old spare Maglites and seeing if they’d sell at a premium on the auction sites, but I figured they wouldn’t sell for enough to be worth the time and effort.

Soap and water.
Clean the dirt and oil and grease off there. Gets a lot less slippery

Okay what’s the trick? There are a few places and things I’d like to wrap with the guts removed. The quick search of Google and YouTube is not turning up anything.

Thanks for all the answers. I will ask Lumintop to add a rubber ring to their next package they send me.

For the time being, I use some rubber gaskets I still had. Not the prettiest, but for the time being probably good enough.

It’s not easy to do, or to describe. I saw it in a book a few years ago, and it was still hard with instructions and photos. I’d think it should be somewhere on the internet by now.

oops, double post
