In the winter months I use them alot. Mostly in the evenings and mornings inside the house & outside. I have 2 dogs to feed outside and walk every morning & evenings. Also have a outdoor cat. So I go out and take care of her too. You may laugh, but my yard is small and I have to pick up the dog & cat poop so no animal or human steps in it and tracks it into the house. I find that a high CRI makes this easier. The bright white light makes the poop look like leafs.
On a off the topic note. A bright white light in the summer makes this little spiders eyes reflect back at me in the law. You would never see them normally, the spiders are smaller than a pin needle head. But the eyes will reflect for several feet!!! There must be several thousand of them in the grass.
I also love camping when I have time, so of course I use my lights alot during those times.
I usually use a light daily for a few minutes when I’m shutting all the lights off downstairs before bed to make my way back to the bedroom. Sometimes when I get up at night for a quick drink of water I will also use a light. Other than that, most of my light usage is recreational
how long can I go without actually using a light? Probably quite some time if I really had to, since there is a slight amount of ambient light all the time in my condo from parking lot/city lights. But whats the fun in that?! lol.
I thought I was the only one to notice those. At first I thought they were dew droplets, closer inspection… what the? Yep spiders, and some times thousands just like your lawn. Back to original question most days average 3-4 hrs between uses.
Last summer, took one of my hot rod lights out to the veg. garden at night, and wow - it was scary seeing all those little reflections, some not so little, of eyes staring back at you... After that, I made sure I washed those picked veggies off darn good.
Hhmm, I always seem to have a small collection of lights around me, ready to test one or demo one in a moment's notice. So, I use mine pretty often. Yes, I have a problem...
I never use one. I can't remember the last time I actually used one for anything. At work there's tons of those big pole lights, probably Metal Halide, because they are very white lights. It's so bright it's staggering. That's because they load trucks at night. At home, it's just easier to turn on a light switch.
I work at night, so no need for a light there and at home, I just use the regular lights. Really, the only time I use them is to build them and test them, otherwise I would never use one. I stopped trying to carry an EDC, because I just never had a reason to use it.
Sad, isn't it. Love to work on 'em, but got no practical use for 'em.
I use my EDC (TrustFire R5-A3) very often, as well as to see in the many dark corners of the house, even better to see small characters if I do not have glasses (I use the glasses for see small things but I forget them everywhere ), the bright light constricts the pupil and I see better because it increases the “depth of field”.
i’m a delivery driver, and i work from 3 or 4pm… to 10pm, or a little after.
delivering 6 days a week like this? sometimes 7 days if my sunday driver calls off (he frequently does, lol)… i honestly need a good flashlight 6 to 7 days a week. (i like throwers)
at home? in the winter months i need to periodically go out at night and get coal from the coal pile? thats a job for a smaller light.
i wanna hit the basement or the workshop rooms in the house? i need a small flashlight to get me to the room and the lightswitch.
i could make DO without one at home, but, working? I need to see house numbers ad delivery direction features in the dark. Also, if they dont answer the door for the tv or stereo being on loud? if i have a BIG light, i can hit some windows and they come running to see if its the cops shining a spotlight on them for the noise, LMAO.
once i realized i needed more than my usual small flashliht i always had back in the day? i used a 4-d maglite for years… then this LED thing happened… LMAO.
I use the flashlights I talk about here for two specific activities.
1: Illuminating rock/ice for evening/night time climbing during the dark Swedish winter season ( example here: What did you use your flashlight for today? )
2: Exploration and photography of old abandoned mines and underground facilities ( example movie clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=abAJLb_Vvnc )
I don’t do this stuff everyday, I can go for months without needing a light, but when I do I want a lot of light and don’t want to loose sleep if I trash ’em or loose ’em.
Well then, it’s about 15 mins to half an hour a day at the Most at work. I do restoration projects on old buildings in the middle of nowhere most of the time, and with no power except an Annoying frickin generator, hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, so annoying, (this is maily wooden structures i’m in as i’m a cabinet maker by trade going between old furniture and old buildings is good job diversity and longevity in my line) and having power cables that may snag and bulbs that may blow and cause fires just isn’t good when your closest fire department is an hour away or in a different language on the phone sometimes as i work in europe sometimes, so flashlights are a godsend especially my coast hl8 which can light an entire barn ALL DAY !, and my good and faithfull sc52 which since the day i got it just hasn’t left my left hand side pocket and doesn’t intrude when crawling through small places, and the best thing is i don’t have to worry about having a special battery charger or a case for li-ion batteries to sit in as they use AA’s. And then there’s the dogs, not mine but my two girls, i end up walking them on the fields anyway so again, a flashlight is used as it’s sometimes dark by the time i’m home.
