How many times/hours per day do you use one of your lights?

I’m cleaning up and doing repairs after the last tenant left, and i find i am using my lights dozens of times a day, maybe 4-6 hours a day on average, sometimes i just leave the light on low and turned on, its easier to find that way and uses only a few mA, and every 3 hours or so i swap batteries, one is charging and one is in use so i never run low on juice.

So in an average day do you use many hours of light, or is your use weighted for some reason?

depends… from 0 to up to 20 minutes.
On average it should be 10 minutes per day, not counting just lighting them up just for fun.
I am starting to get creative now, like using them in the closet :stuck_out_tongue:
I don’t have a specific repeated use, like for work, or dog walking.
If there is a blackout, then its 2-3 hours, but that’s rare.

I use my EDC light I guess about ten times a day to light up somewhere dark, usually to find something, and as a bike light from home to work and back (in winter only). My other lights are only used on camping trips (that are unfortunately a bit scarce nowadays with a very young child around), or just to show them off (even more scarce, I am less than I desire surrounded by flashlight nuts).

I’m pretty bad. I’m working nights in Austin and I carry the STL-V2 (fits very nicely with two cells in the left back pocket slacks pocket) and a Sipik on the keychain. The V2 gets blasted off with a tap of the button intermitently against walls and on patrols. It gets used I guess at least 20 minutes a day, not counting my bringing other lights to play around with. The Sipik sees about 2 to 5 minutes per day. My other lights I play with while just sitting in the recliner and messing around, creating those “retina burns” against the white apartment walls. That is very sporadic though. No way to tell how much I do it.

yes there is, how often do you have to recharge the batteries

Uh, well, frequently, so I guess more than I realize.

3-5 hours if I go on a night hike, otherwise it's usually less than 30 minutes. I use my lights frequently when it's dark, but mostly for very short spurts.

I work in HVAC, so on work days my light gets used multiple times, sometimes a few hours. When I’m not working, still seems like i use a light a couple times a day, maybe just a few minutes, but sometimes more. And someone is always asking to borrow it at work. Why buy one when they can borrow mine? haha

very frequently in work. its where my interest really got kindled. at home, little luke generally pick pockets at least one of my edc’s to play with, and he’s claimed my xp-g2 uf-v3 as his own pretty much, although his favourite of my lights is the trustfire t2, as its dead easy to turn on for him.

I tend to carry my favorite light all day, currently it’s a Convoy S2 w/xpg2 & qlite. At night it is a nightlight for the gf and also for walks. Summertime I need them for bikelights. Our fave restaurant has horrible lighting and I’m old, so it’s like a pair of glasses for me!

They don’t mind you bringing in a light and running it while your there?

I forgot to mention i use one to light a room i plan on only being in for a few mins, to save starts on CFLs (extend their life). Coincidentally i was reading recently that if you use a CFL for 15 mins or less each time you turn it on then the lifetime will be similar to an incandescent

Can you get Luke to teach my wife how to change modes on the T2. It has a KD 3175 driver in it. The kids and I have given up. Luke has great tastes.

You’re not the only one !
I’ll bet a few EDCs around here have seen a few menus.

Usually from a few seconds to a few minutes a couple of dozen times a day. It's a fast way to run in and get something from a room, otherwise I flip the lightswitch as I enter, find what I need in the dark and about the time I'm exiting the ceiling fluorescent tubes come fully on just as I'm shutting them off.

Lately I've been chasing away a possum in the back yard around dusk that comes to eat the cat food I put out for a couple of strays. The stupid things are even hard to move along with a stick. I was bopping one on top of the head the other night and he just stood there. They don't like a strobe in the face though. Finally found a use for it.

While I don’t put many hours on my lights each day (more like minutes) I find myself whipping out a Preon 2 from my shirt pocket very often indeed….to look under something, upon entering a dark room, to find something that fallen between the seats of the truck. There’s always a ‘more serious’ light close at hand, and surely if I’m out at night, but that little Preon always gets used several times a day. It feeds on either L92s or those great little ‘Nice’ lithium primaries.

Hers a tip for restaurants or darkened theatres - Walmart sells a little aluminum 1x AAA for about $3. Comes in a blister pack, in a variety of colours, with a little translucent plastic ring around the front. It’s only good for about 3 lumens, but it’s all spot, and a very tight spot at that - no spill whatever. You can find a theatre seat without annoying anyone, or examine a menu or skulk around the house at night.

Anyway, I digress…too much coffee already this morning!

Couple of times, usually when i search something from the dark room, find my way in a dark hallways and so on. Quite often, actually, now that for few years i´ve had at least e-01 in my keyring.
Back when i didn´t EDC flashlight, i just went in the dark, not even realising i´d need one. Even few of my friends started to carry lights as they found out they are pretty useful!
And BTW here in the arctic circle it is dark all the time this time of year.

Very true, though i noticed that the same lumens from a flashlight does not illuminate a room like a ceiling light, my best guess is because a flashlight is reflected and losing lumens (and more losses if the ceiling is not white) vs a ceiling light that does not reflect like a flashlight has to

lol. I coul try but luke only gets as far as high then proceeds to blind himself……not sure your wife needs that kind of training.

lukes also pretty good at finding hidden strobes, even on the mega mode group 4a driver he can get it onto the most debilitating strobe and leave it there as a “suprise” for daddy :expressionless:

Not very often in summer, more now winter is here. Whenever I need to lighten up a dark place really. 3-4 times a day for less than 1 hour each. My little LEDLenser K1L on my keyring is very handy but use is 1-2 minutes while I sort my keys.

Edit……….I use my UV plenty, charging GITD mostly.

It situation dependent for me.

If I am working then anything between half an hour and up to 14 hours a day.

If I am not working then anything from half an hour and up to... 14 hours a day! Ha ha.
