How to identify the CREE LED model in a light?

Does a CREE LED module have an identifier on it such that I can learn which model it is? I have a green CREE LED light and all the ‘manufacturer’ has available is that it is a Q5. But that is just the bin and it could be one of several models, correct?

This light is insanely bright so I am just curious which CREE it is since I am learning all about these and know what my other lights are.

Make a picture and post it, there is no serial or such a thing on it…

There are pictures of most Cree LED’s here.

It would be cool to see a picture of a green LED, so if you can post a picture that would still be good.

I will post a picture.

I am surprised there is no model #, especially given all the issues with fraud/copycat flashlight stuff. How do we know we actually get a XP-E or XM-L or whatever? Do you just have to compare what you have to pictures?

Pretty much you just have to look at it. The worst part is that U2 bin XM-L will look exactly the same as a T4 bin, but the U2 is much brighter. There isn’t any way to tell about what bin you are getting.

I saw a LED datasheet recently (can’t remember the brand, maybe Lumileds) that had a laser etching area shown on the LED itself, I think maybe to etch the product data on the LED. That would be pretty cool.

This really surprises me. I am new to BLF (and CPF) but have read a lot of threads and don’t recall reading much about bogus LEDs or false specifications. I would think the chinese would be attempting to sell us cheap/false LEDs left and right.

I can’t take a close-up photo worth a shit but am 99% sure it is this one here from the flashlightwiki. Mine has the same tiny layout of lines on the surface of the LED and that metal ring, suggesting it is a XR-E. Although mine isn’t yellow, it looks fairly white.

This green light is in a rebranded light so doesn’t go by any of the more common UF/TF/etc names. They call it the Wicked W400 and it shoots a green light several hundred yards.

Yep xre
