I’ve got a piece of Gorilla Glass that i wanna cut into a diffuser lens. What’s the best way to make it “frosted”? rub it with sandpaper? sandblast? acid etch it?
Any of the above will work. Sand-blasting or acid-etching will give you the most consistent finish. Sandpaper will do, but it will be tough to not end up with some sort of stroke-marks.
You could also use this. It is fairly inexpensive.
You can spray some window frosting spray on it .
Apply light coats until you get the amount of diffusion you need .
I haven’t tried the hairspray trick, but Don’s suggestion, is:
“You remove the reflector from the light and lightly spray it with hairspray. This will have the same effect as an orange-peel reflector.
The best way to do it is to get to somewhere with still air but a floor you don’t care about. Spray a small cloud of hairspray into the air then pass the reflector through it. You may want several passes. It is best to apply very thin layers till you build up to the result you want.
Smooths out beams something wonderful.”

Think the trick is not to spray the reflector directly.
I would go for the DC fix solution.
