A while ago I was doing some work about 2:00 to 3:00 AM. That required a road trip of 10 miles over rural roads. So I jumped in the truck wearing a Wurkkos H25L (it has two LEDs) and laid an FT03 on the seat. I came to a stop sign at a remote and very dark “T” and hopped out, turned the headlight on to check the stuff in the bed. Everything was fine. Hopped back into the truck. This is an old pickup without any auotmated lights so when I shut the door there were no lights anywhere. Then I leaned to the right to pull the seat belt from the left side. At the exact moment somebody right next to the door lit me up with two bright lights. About 2-3 seconds after my heart started beating again I realized that didn’t shut off my headlight when I got back in the truck. Then when I leaned to the right my headlight reflected straight back at me. When I saw the bright lights I knew it was the rearview mirror but didn’t realize it was myself.
This was one of the worse scares I have ever had. 30 minutes later I was still shaking a bit. Probably because I was in an isolated spot, it was so dark, so quiet and my mind was thinking about the work I was doing.
Still can’t believe something so simple could be so frightening/terrifying.
Has a mirror-headlight combination cause anyone else a problem?
