This was 2 weeks ago, but I didn't have the time to post it. A new store has opened up down the road from me (ok, really about 20 miles) - Field & Stream - and I decided to walk in and see what it was like even though 90% of what they sell has no appeal to me. I found a HUGE flashlight section containing many Li-Ion lights. Some "house branded", some Fenix, some Streamlight, 5.11 Tactical, and even SureFires.
This is just the higher end lights display area:
A couple three modes (H-M-L, no strobe!) house branded which include Li-Ion cells and cheap charger. The $49.99 light is XP-G2 if I remember correctly and came with (1) 18650 (unbranded cells), and the $69.99 came with (2) 18650's:
Did you note whether or not they offered 18650 or other Lithium Ion batteries as separate items or only with flashlights? If they carry Fenix lights then they should also carry Fenix batteries.
You know where I live.I wouldn’t be surprised if they opened one of these stores in my area, or travels to camp.It would be nice to see Fenix lights in an actual store!By the way Garry, first snow tonight!
Yeah I could totally see one of these down your way. We're getting snow up here too. Starting laying on the roads on the ridgetops. It's disgusting! We had flurries November 1st. Wife and I looked at each other and both said, "at least it waited until November".
Thanks Garry.I think we are in for a real winter this year.Between all my hobbies I have light and heat covered for an extended stay at home or camp w/no utilities!Hope all is well and have a great night, I have 8 eneloops and two 18650’s to charge!
I’m glad to see LED flashlights are trickling down to consumer level stores, but those prices are pretty inflated, its hard to beat a Convoy M1 with a sanyo battery and a decent charger for performance, utility and cost effectiveness.
They just opened a large stand-alone Field & Stream store here in Rochester, NY this past month, just across the parking lot from a large 2-story Dicks store located in the mall. There is also a huge Gander store less than a mile away. Crazy, I do not see the total dollars available to support such large stores. But I guess someone ran the numbers before the decision was made.
I had but just a few minutes to check the store out, but of course I did glance in the flashlight aisle, and was surprised with the large selection of high end lights. It must be a much bigger surprise to the general public.
