Who here is into white noise to sleep or concentrate? Personally, I’ve never been able to function without it. I’ve used a loud box fan to sleep since god only knows when. And the louder the better!
With that, I decided to start a new white noise YouTube channel and would sure love some support if it’s your thing…
Personally I sleep with a fan on all year round. I live in a 12-plex and can hear my neighbors a lot of the time and the white noise helps drown them out when I’m trying to sleep. It helps to circulate the cold air from the window AC during the summer too.
There are “quick” white-noise circuits so easy that I’m surprised no one sells 'em in bulk.
Used to be a 2688 chip that people would use as a random-noise generator. A reverse-biased diode or transistor generates white noise. Etc.
Toss that to a small audio amp, and you got perfectly random white noise.
Filter it out to pink noise which isn’t as harsh.
I can just imagine trying to sleep, when an ad by Viagra Guy starts blasting at me. Or worse, those stomach-turning ads about foot fungus, or how you have 30lbs of impacted faecal matter inside you, or that weirdo who taps at his eyeballs with spoons (wtaf?!?).
But yeah, I had, well, have, somewhere, those noise-generators with white noise, babbling brooks, woodland sounds, ocean waves, etc. The changeover where the sample-loop recycles to the beginning is so obvious that it’s more distracting than anything else.
Yeah, there’s a name for that. Not “asmr” but some weirdo term. It’s noiselike enough that you can hear it, but not so loud that you can concentrate on it.
Ummm, maybe it is asmr.
Goggled “sleep sounds whisper” and a bunch of 'em all popup.
Not for sleeping exactly but I recorded the morning birds (about 6 different
species) out in the Texas Hill Country and use it for concentration sounds and recently, my wake-up alarm, over a bluetooth mini stereo system.
