If it's broke then de-dome it...................

I recently fried the XML on my HD2010 using a 26650. So I decided to take a big chance and de-dome it.

I’m happy to announce it was a raging success. It still doesn’t light but man o’ man it looks spectacular.

A perfect de-dome! :stuck_out_tongue:

A good lesson learned and now do it on a working XML. You will see it goes much harder because of the nerves :)

and I tried de-doming, it would not only look like sh*t but explode in my face sending hot phosphorus shrapnel into my cornea and I would be writing this from the emergency room.

I tried de-doming two and I am 0-for-2… 0% success rate.

The first one pulled off BEAUTIFULLY, picture perfect exposed LED die and I was really pumped!! But the color tint shifted horribly towards green/yellow. The second one ripped the die surface off the substrate, as it remained adhered to the dome.

I think I’ll leave the de-domes to Andi, scaru and the others…. my success rate is pretty bad.

To quote from THE GREATEST one-liner movie EVER… “THE DOME WILL CRACK!!”

Well, at least your success rate is not as good as ILF’s. I think his success rate is something like 0-for-22. :open_mouth:

Sounds like successful dedome to me. Tint shift to warmer is normal.

My 1st and only dedoming try was like your 2nd one... I got working blue LED

Yeah, the key is to start with a U2 so it is a nice cool white and will become a nuetral.

I've dedomed leds...

By accident, Ooops!

Dedomed an SST-90 - $35 Ooops

Dedomed XM-L and Nichia leds too. Ooooops

I think the count is about 9 or 10 by now.

I throw them out, LOL.

When you dedomed the SST-90 did it die? I've heard they are very easy to dedome...

Even if they would’ve had a nice soft kinda bluish and sometimes greenish NW tint?………………… :open_mouth: I mean we be talkin’ pert near a hunert or so $ down the flapper here. :santa:

The SST-90 didn't die, but unless you really want a thrower, there's no reason to have a dedomed led. Besides, it was blueish after dedoming. Haven't seen one yet that didn't look fugly after dedoming and I don't care for throwers. All the dedoming was from my big fat fingers getting in the way or from dropsy, which happens a lot. I should work on the floor.

Well, if you ever happen to dedome another one I'll take it off your hands. :D

I kinda knew that one was coming. :stuck_out_tongue: :open_mouth:

Yeah, cause they're expensive. I don't dare to touch the one in my X6.

Edit: Ugh... Now that I'm thinking about it is only a matter of time until I do it. :(

Maybe we should start a de-dome recycling bin on BLF? Ya know, ‘go green’. Errrr maybe ‘going green’ is the wrong term to use here. H) :open_mouth:

Do it, you won’t regret it.
It’s a cheap SST-90 with an unknown bin anyway. I dedomed mine, it’s on page 8 or 9 of the 100% xml dedoming thread if you want to see how i did it.

Just did it and this thing is amazing, I swear it was cloudbouncing. :D Now that it is de-domed and has the upgraded driver it is probably 2-3 the lux of my STL-V2. :D

I’ve never seen a cloud bounce before.

Scaru, where are those beamshots?

Ya just can’t say it’s cloud-bouncing “amazing” and leave us here scratching our kiwis. :open_mouth:

(Ok, I realize it’s daytime right now but that’s no excuse. H) :stuck_out_tongue: )

Tonight... >)
