I'm looking into flashlights to mount onto shotgun.

Well, unfortunately last night my neighbors about a mile down the road were murdered by unknown person that broke into their place. They were very good people and will be missed. This is a very small community about 20 miles out of town and crime like this is unheard of. But it’s so far out in the country that you have to know how to protect your own without relying on police. I’m looking into a light to mount on my shotgun. Does anyone have any any ideas?

A good mount would be in order of course, but the PflexPro should do you fine stead.

Sorry to hear about the neighbors, but there are really bad people out there, I wish more would realize that some people just do not care. No more than you can reason with a hungry bear while covered in peanut butter, can you understand some peoples actions. The nature of irrationality is that those rational cannot understand it.

Stay safe yourself and ID your target first…

Gavin DeBeckers “The Gift of Fear” is a good read.

Sorry to hear about your neighbors. Practice with the shotgun, it’s neither a “can’t miss” gun nor is it going to do much stopping with birdshot at longer ranges. With the right loads it can be awesome if you use it well. Leave the shot-up targets on the fenceposts as “No Trespassing” signs, they’re multi-lingual and universally understood world-wide J) If you don’t have dogs, get some with barks and bites big enough to make stupid people think- best damn burglar alarm there ever was and the batteries never run down. Also multi-lingual, they make great friends too.

Until you get a real mount, tape a tube-style light wherever you can on the barrel and it will do well enough. Any models used by LE will have aftermarket or factory rail or scope mounts made for them.

Here’s to hoping that all you’ll ever do with it is practice.

I never thought about tape, thatll work for the short term. We’ve never had to shoot anyone thank god but my wife has had to pull the .30-30 while I was at work to convince someone that we were better off left alone. The most I’ve used a gun is mainly for critters.

Wrap the barrel first, then attach the light to avoid scratches to either. Electrical tape pulled tight except the last few wraps works great wet or dry.

What type of shotgun?

Be careful about deciding when to wave a gun at someone, if it scares them they might start shooting.

Pretty sure he has that covered…

Armytek is also worth considering. Maybe something like the Doberman.

Well, my go to gun is usually Winchester 30 30 lever. But I also have my main shotgun that’s Mossberg maverick 88 12ga and I also have benelli super nova with ghost rings and chambered for 3 1/2 shells. I prefer the cheaper Mossberg due to the lighter weight and the loading port is always open. I find Remington’s and benellis awkward to load. The Mossberg has the 28” barrel but the 18” is only $80

try one of these cost a bit to feed

here in australia you would be locked up for for even thinking of defending yourself…

Yeah I couldn’t afford one of those. Maybe they’d keep themselves feed on deer and the occasional unlucky horse? My dog usually keeps herself fed on rabbits but one of those might start looking at me kinda funny if I didn’t feed it on a regular basis.

Sorry about your neighbors. Hopefully the shotgun stays loaded and u never have to unload it into someone.

What flashlights do you have now? The M1 that was recommended would be good choice, rocher f8 or Thor fire vg10. U can also try using velcro straps to mount your light to the shotgun. Buy a picatinny rail/ring mount and you can use a scope mount to hold the flashlight place.

Sorry to hear about your neighbors.

As for a light and mount I have been researching this same subject as well. For a mount it looks like hands down the Elzetta ZSM is the best option from what I have read and what I am going to use:

For a light I have found the most recommend option to be a Surefire 6P original with a Malkoff drop in or a Solarforce host with a Malkoff drop in. For a shotgun you want a light with potted electronics so the recoil doesn’t cause the driver to come apart and you also want to have double springs to cushion the battery.

I myself though am probably going with the UTG EL228Q-A. I ran the EL338Q-A on my 12 gauge when I had it and after 500 rounds or so of all types of loads it held up fine. I sold that gun and am now setting up a 20 gauge. The UTG lights I’m pretty sure are P60 compatible so even if they do fail you can swap it out for a Malkoff drop in.

Flashlights are good at disorienting trespassers, they will likely never have heard of an XP-L chip so it will be quite the effective surprise, giving you more reaction time.

There are quite a few different clamp on Pic rail mounts for shotguns - which you get will depend on the type of barrel you have and if there’s an extended magazine tube.

You want the light as close to your front hand as possible so it’s easy to find and activate in the dark.

I myself would look at one of the Eagletac T Series.

I had heard Armytek was starting to become hit or miss but hadn’t read a first hand account. Thanks for the info as I had been looking at maybe getting a couple of Partners

What about some huge outdoor lights mounted permanently. If you suspect someone is outside flick these on and they will most likely turn tail and run. In addition I would still have a gun with a flashlight attached. I like the idea of having high powered yard lights so I don't make myself a target by having the only light shining on the trespasser.

Yes I’m thinking along the lines of those dollar powered motion lights by the garage and animal pens and I would like to experiment with xhp series led for exterior lighting. They would make superb emitters for that use

An Olight magnetic weapons mount is what I use on my shotgun
