Imalent DN35 Anyone else have one yet?

Did anyone else happen to order or have the Imalent DN35?

I would just like to double check my readings and math please.

Thanks

Hi Terry, I am interested in this light but wish to see more opinions from owners before I place an order. Could you please briefly tell your impression on it? Quality, UI, tint, run time?
Many thanks!

With runtime do you mean before the battery is depleted, or total runtime of the light before it completely fails?

JK

Well any information really

Well there are a couple of threads here on BLF, as well as on CPF http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/forumdisplay.php?167-Imalent
You can check out Youtube as well. Overall opinion seems to be that output is really good, although not as much as claimed. Buttons are very difficult to find in the dark. There are a decent amount of reports that these new lights from Imalent have quality problems; the light is buggy or doesn’t work. Overall build quality is not too good; light feels cheap. But if the light does work, people are really happy with it and with discount you have great value…
Anyhow, this is how I perceive the new lights from Imalent, including the DN35.

I think that DN70 is awesome design, very useful, powerfull, great runtime with the 26650 battery, I love see the voltage in all moment, Nice and simple interface, quality built seems top for me.
The problem is that my DN70 is perfect, but my DN35 seems perfect but not run……
I think that Imalent found the perfect design; simple interface with 2 normal side switch and good information in the screen, this is better and more useful than the designs of tactil screen.
Imalent should improve product quality control a bit before sale, but the design and materials are top quality without a doubt.

I was originally curious because the 26650 cell that comes with it.

I normally test cells in the charger before using.

No clue what company actually makes the cell but it is rated at 4500mAh. Testing shows 5000 to 5100mAh.

It's been awhile since I posted this so I just chalked it up to a bonus.

I have a review I will be posting on the 1st.

As far as the quality, well I have 2 now. 1 was sent to test and review and 1 I bought soon after. And have the DN70 on the way.

The only issue I had me and a co-worker solved. It was simply that the head was not screwed on quite tight enough.

Color tint I would say is just between white and netural. And throws like crazy.

Thanks for the very useful information. How is the beam pattern? Is it clean, ie free of artifacts like rings?

This seems the only 26650 tiny thrower, 11cm long, ~90kcd which is very good throw for the size. I are fond of this size and form factor. 3-4 AA throwers are a bit too thick IMO to carry around. Well Manker U21 is a respectful thrower but 15cm long and 6cm head.

I'm at work but have one here. This is wide open at about 25 yards. Best I can do here...

The beam shot is impressive! Thanks man!

Anytime...

Although it’s in a different price range, you also have the Acebeam EC60.

I actually am aware of this option. It is 14.2cm long though….
The lumintop SD26 would be great if it has XPL HI or XPH35 HI, being similar in head and body diameter, only 1cm longer

Good! My DN35 arrived 15min ago  I’m waiting sunset to try it outside. I love my DN70, it’s my preferred.

Terry, if you are doing output measurements I heartly encourage you to post a table of lux values as a function of the angle relative to the flashlight axis. You can do them at a fixed distance or along a perpendicular to the axis, just say which one. Don’t forget to give the distance to the light at angle 0.

The goal is that total lumens and OTF candela are not enough to give a good idea of the beam. If we have the above measurements we’ll know how large the hot spot is, how much spill and/or corona there is, and everything else. We can also calculate total lumens in the angular range and compare with integrating sphere readings. In principle, if we go to large enough angles, we don’t even need messy ansi lumens, since we can obtain them by a simple integration. In the general case it’d be messy because we need 2-dimensional measurements but almost all flashlights, and the DNs in particular, have a beam with cylindrical symmetry so readings along only 1 direction are enough.

It may take some time to do the readings, and it may not be possible to do them all at highest level at constant output. No problem because the beam profile won’t change significantly (if at all), so if you do 1 or 2 measurements at turbo and the whole profile at low or mid we can just scale it up to turbo.

maybe you find another missing letter on your Imalent flashlight

I am new here and this is my first comment. Please forgive me if I stutter a bit. I have appreciated BLF for some time now and refer to this forum before any and all buys. I have an A6 and an X5 which I love and use daily. Both lights were purchased because of BLF and I thank you. Getting to the point…I received an Imalent DN35 today and would have probably appreciated it more had I not received an Eagle Eye X6 XPL HI yesterday. Guys, I can tell very little difference in throw with both lights on their highest setting. The Eagle Eye advertises 1200 lumens and the DN35 advertises 2200 lumens. I checked both against some trees at the far end of my pasture (maybe 350-400 yards) and both lights simply did the same job…no difference. The Imalent DN35 was @ $65 with coupon ($105 full price) and the Eagle Eye X6 was @ $18 with coupon ($24 full price). I love the X6, but I simply cannot recommend the DN35.

I do not disagree.

I have been very close to purchasing a Eagle Eye for some time now. I keep hoping to find somewhere here in the U.S. to purchase.

I have also researched for hours on end to find a distributor for the brand and that leads me in circles of the same retailers over and over.

If any of you happen to know how or where to find the actual manufacturer I would love to have that information.

Convoy (great lights as well) I have the same issue. It has been like looking for a needle in a hay stake. I find tons saying they sell wholesale only to find that it is the same retailers we all already know and use and yes you get a bit of a discount if you order in numbers but, the discount is very small.

Anyone with any of that information, I would very much appreciate a PM or just a good lead.

As far as the DN35, these are 2 totally different lights. Imalent is trying to push forward with new ideas in technology, and size verses power. They have hits some snags and still have some bugs to get worked out. Don't misunderstand me I am not defending them at all. I am just saying they are a very young company with great ideas. I think they just pushed some to market before testing and quality control in place.

Both my DN35 and DN70 are built like tanks and still slip right into my Carhart pant leg side pocket. Even though I do not use the USB charging system, it is thee if needed.

As far as throw distance, of course a wider, deeper, smooth reflector will throw very well.

The DN35 and DN70 are around 114mm tall with the actual opening at the optics only just shy of 30mm.

The Eagle eye is 140mm and 40mm at the optics. That is about 1.1 inches longer and around 1.2 inches larger at the optics so naturally it will throw much better.

I have a Convoy X3 here I am beginning to test, I think you can get it for around 30 or 40 dollars. The head on it is around 42.8mm that is only the distance inside the bezel across the lens and the reflector is around 55mm deep. Very smooth. I have only just started testing it but I would almost bet it will out throw both. I have not been able to find anything here close to the house that it can't reach out and light up yet. But try putting it in your pocket.

Honestly I like all of the lights mentioned here. Each works well, each has a use and size design for whatever a person may need. The Eagle Eye is geared more toward search and rescue as well as the Convoy, the Imalent is more toward being compact for EDC and still have some punch when needed.

I like them all

the DN35 uses a XHP35 LED which light emitting surface is bigger than XPL Hi
so with more lumens and about same head size it wont outthrow the XPL Hi Eagle Eye

the main issue is the 2200 advertized lumens are in some reviews measured with 1400 lumens

one advantage is the boost driver which also makes full brightness with a half depleeted battery, while the Eagle eye looses output the more the battery is depleted

Totally agree... No way the 35 can out throw the Eagle.. I still need more information on the Eagle line. I want to get several and test them in all areas. I always hear and read good things about them.

I have been getting better and better output readings the more I refine my tube. My last reading last night was 1900... Now that was a fully charged cell first shot with no 30 second wait.

I am tinkering around with this Convoy X3. I do not test or review Convoy normally because most make them into what they want. I get 3a at the tail cap regardless of what cell I use. Not cheap cells. 30q 3.05a believe it or not a dirt cheap Radio Shack 26650 3.04a and one of the Imalents 26650 cells and still 3.05a

I need to tinker around and find what is either boosting or lowering/stopping it at that current. It throws like crazy stock. But I believe if I add a little more it will throw even more.

My first experience with a Convoy. Yeah I know that is almost a sin for guys like us. I was going to turn this one down until I got it and played around enough to see what it is good at.. That happens to be throwing..
