Inexpensive Flashlight Handles From Convoy

If you have a flashlight with a tripod mounting screw hole and the light is relatively large, heavy or gets uncomfortably hot then a handle may be worthwhile. Convoy has a relatively minimal almost universal fit handle for lights with a standard 1/4 x 20 tripod mounting hole for only $5.57 including a mounting screw and free shipping. I ordered a couple last Sunday and they arrived today, Saturday. Looks like they bulk air ship from China and then use a forwarding company to mail via USPS.

I’ve looked at these for years and think I’ll end up finally getting one or two…

Since you don’t explicitly say so, would you strongly reccomend these or are your feelings that they’re just “nice enough if you really need a handle”? How is the machining and anodising? Is the screw fairly good steel or made of cheese?

They are satisfactory but any handle’s fit is dependent on the mating surface around the tripod socket on the light and this can vary considerably depending on the light. The included bolt is slotted top with a folding loop that can be used to attach a lanyard. The design of the handle though is such that access to the slot is pretty much impossible due to the forward extension of the handle top so the only way to tighten the supplied bolt is with the folding loop. To mount the handles on my lights as securely as I wanted I replaced the factory bolt with a Allen drive button head 1/2" long bolt and tightened it with a Allen wrench that has the short arm shortened enough to clear the handle forward extension. It works so far but if I note loosening or other problems then I will try removable grade Loctite.

Having the forward extension on the handle directly above the handle mounting hole and fastener is certainly not the smartest design I have ever seen. However other choices are a lot more expensive, in the $20 to $36 or more range, and camera top handles typically are designed to mount in the camera accessory shoe.

Thanks! I suspected the bolt would be a challenge due to the geometry, still might pick one up.
