infrared thermometer: i can't understand the REAL difference between.....

hello to all
I’m here because i would ask you what’s the real difference between a infrared thermometer sold as BODY thermometer ( but still with a gun host…) and a infrared thermometer sold for working scenarious.

In my mind i could only think “hey…take the one with best temperature range”!!!———> the one for the work. typically from –50°C to 300/500°C
But in the other hand i think…. maybe the one sold as body temperature, having a SHORTER temp range, could be more precise ( 0,1c) in showing me the temperature.
what’s the truth?

it would be nice to have an item that can work as fever checker ( pointing it on my forehead), + also working as surface temperature from –50 to 300°C.

what’s your opinion? i would just understand if the body thermometers are technically differents by the surface thermometers.
i would to remind you , that i am comparing thermometers in GUN SHAPE, not the ones made for ears…etc.

You answered your questions, the work ones are a bit off and for their measurement that is not so bad, but taking a sicks person temperature requires a higher accuracy, in much a smaller bandwidth.

I have not looked at BODY thermometers, but one difference may be the emission coefficient.
On a good thermometer it is adjustable, on a BODY version it is probably fixed to the body value.

The emission coefficient is how much of the value is real and how much is reflected from the environment. For some equipment it is possible to adjust both emission coefficient and environment temperature.
