Introducing ACEBEAM

It doesn't bother me. I already thought the old name was silly. I don't care if the name sounds like it has homosexual or girly man connotations. I still think the new name will be bad for business though. Hell, change one letter and the name is perfectly fine, if humorously backwards: MicroBlueBeam.

My suggestion is: MicroBear (connoting small but strong) haha

I didnt see it as girly or homosexual, just goofy. Armytek make the Tiara, thats girly or flaming. In the mainstream names are important to success generally, not always but usually I find.

As long as they make quality products, names are a trivial matter. If they could etch blue on their lights, it could be pretty cool compared to the only white etching so far.

The exact connotations attached to the name don't really matter. The point is it's not a good name outside of China, and they're taking an unnecessary and avoidable step backwards.

What makes it so bad? I know it is not a good choice for a name. A name would not be the deciding factor for buying/not buying a flashlight.
I am pretty sure they are too far into the game to make a complete name change. Probably only able to make the best out of what they have.
This is my opinion, so maybe the name really does matter.

Why do you think it's not a good name? Isn't it enough that it's not a good name?

Too long

No

I remember years ago
Well, not that many years ago, when I walked into BJ’s Wholesale club and for the first time saw a TV with a new brand called Samsung. I just stood there, repeating over and over in my mind Sam-Sung, Sam-Sung. I thought how weird.
The year earlier the strange new brand was Lucky Goldstar, that too seemed so strange and had a cheap sound to it. It sure didn’t instill any confidence in my mind. Of course later it was known to us as simply Goldstar, and now LG.
I remember when Apple computers first came out, I thought it was a blatant rip off of the Beatles record label, Apple Records.
How about when Esso changed their name to Exxon?
Remember recently the Sci Fi channel changed their name to SyFy
How about Netflix DVD delivery name change to Quikster? (that’s when I quit Netflix)

Just produce damn good flashlights, and call them youporn if you want.
We need a flashlight group buy, to wish you luck with your sales.

Isn’t everyone jumping to conclusions? TS states that Microbluebear will be taking charge of Supbeam’s business, not renaming the lights.
Lamborghini is owned by Audi, but they still call them Lamborghini…

I bet you did not even finish the reading. Yes, it is a photoshop image, but you can see their intention of making it true.

I think we can stop wasting time discussing their new brand name. Time to move on.

Have you maybe missed post #26?

Edit, Freeme was quicker!

I skimmed though the thread, mostly cracking up at some of the jokes, but obviously missed that one… Oh well.

Supbeam does make good lights, and I look forward to seeing MBB’s new offerings. I’ll just sand off the name if I ever get one…

If they could somehow come up with the holy grail of budget price, extremely high quality, and features that I want, I might suck it up and buy one because of the stupid name. Even if they got two of the above, I still wouldn’t.

Funny how names bring up such strong emotions. Anyone remember the Chevy Nova being introduced in Mexico? (edit: bad example… apparently, the Nova story ain’t true, though it does make for good storytelling.)

I just wonder what is Bella’s opinion after reading all these venting, if she does.

She does.

Yes she does. They are considering other options. Unfortunately MicroBear is not an available choice. I say either keep Supbeam for it’s market awareness or stick with MicroBlueBear. If the lights are of good quality people will learn to say the name with pride instead of embarrassment.

I don’t know, probably i am the last one who can gave an opinion about how a name in English language sounds, but, i think i have read somewhere that in the days we live there is no bad add… important is that in a way or in another one product or a brand just to be on attention of the consumers is good, so if it is just an hi end flagship, a beautiful add, an stupid add, an strange one, a viral one or even an micromacroBLUE name, do not matter really much. Important is to cach attention and in this sense i think microbluebear is a very good name :stuck_out_tongue:
