into one. In my excessive need to make things better, I was reworking the heat sinking when the pill dropped off the table onto the hard floor. Ever since, I have been wondering if it is damaged. I don't remember exactly what it looked like before I dropped it. Upon cursory examination the lens atop the LED is still in place, yet when I look at the spill at close range, I see a cross shaped pattern like this at 1 foot from the wall:
Backed off to 3 feet it looks like:
Is this guy damaged, or is this normal for an XML P6 pill? The hotspot seems to be a lot larger than I remember and the whole thing seems floodier.
Looks like the lens on your emitter was lifted slightly from the impact causing the cross pattern and added floodiness. Those little bubbles can be very touchy (I've ruined one or two myself). Some people have been able to successfully reattach them but it's pretty rare to do so and have it 100%. You could try pressing the lens a bit (very carefully!) to see if you can reseat it. There is some type of optical grade gel between the emitter and lens that bonds the two together.
Or you could just leave well enough alone and enjoy a larger hotspot. Either way, best of luck with it. :)
It turns out that the reflector had backed itself out several turns causing the system to focus improperly. I guess the Sky Ray S-R5 body is a bit tight. As a matter of fact it achieves a hermetic seal which I have to pull against to get it apart. I could probably use this as a dive light.
