Is there an issue with my SRM 710

So is there anyway to make it smoother like my SRM Drifter?

Are your 710s smooth all the way?

Thanks.

The steel on steel will wear down eventually. Just keep playing with it.

Yes that ball is normal it is to give the knife retention, so the blade will not open easily in the closed position.

You can take the knife apart and clean and lube with any type of gun lubracant, or can drop a few drops on the pivot. Have you tried loosening the pivot screw very slightly?

I will try to oil it again.

Actually thats a good idea on the trying to play with the pivot screw. Should I get this screw driver, it says its made for SRM...or does the HomeDepot/Lowes have a similar kit for cheap. Can you please comment on the screw driver size I should get, if you know.

Many thanks.

No you cannot use a regular screwdriver, you need a torx driver (star shape] . Im not sure what size , but yes any hardware store carrys a torx key set with all sizes, make sure it includes all small sizes , which you will use on most small folders.

The SRM 710 a friend has is very smooth... seems to be the luck of the draw. My SRM 905 , Bee L05-1 and SRM 908 were rough at first. The L05 and 905 have worn in and are even flickable now... but the 908 is still very rough and even makes screeching noises when opened. I also have that screwdriver, but it doesn't fit most of my knives... many of them have hex screws (allen, inbus). Look very closely to identify the actual screw type first. The exduct screwdriver is a 2 in 1 with torx T-6 und torx T-10 blades... you can also get those bits cheap on ebay und amazon sometimes.

I have this one for 6 dollars at home depot. You also can find it on amazon but for far more money.

Bits include T4, T5, T6, T7, T8, T9, T10 and T15 Torx tip sizes.

Thanks Gen1.3...I have seen the Husky brand pretty often, I will check it out tonight, thanks for the recommendation.

BTW the 710 has hex (allen) screws not torx...

What screws are used on SRM 710 clip?

I stand corrected , the screws on the SRM 710 are indeed Allen keys ( hex ) . Allen keys are also widely available at your hardware store or online. After looking closely and Vextrex post ..

Hex screws

In fact most of the SRM knives use hex screws and only the minority torx... and the majority is either completely hex OR completely torx. (not counting the special 3/5 pin pivot screws)

That's strange. Does SRM use SAE hex (imperial) or metric hex keys?

I can tighten or loosen the pivot screw with hex 2mm key, but clip screws are smaller, and 1.5mm hex is too small. Which hex do you use?

pivot 2mm or 5/64" , clip + handles 1/16" on the SRM 710

Makes sense. 1.5mm is too small, and Google calculator says 1/16" is 1.5875 mm. And now I have to buy another set of hex keys

I broke down and finally bought a new set of torx drivers last night at the Home Depot. Not had much luck trying to "budget" purchase these types of things from China in the past. My previous multi-driver purchase had pieces missing or duplicated. For a princely sum of $5 at the local store, I'm pretty satisfied.

I'm glad, did you get the Husky torx screwdirver? I love that torx screwdriver.

Yes I did! Looks like a fine set (and complete).

The ball being off the blade tang during the last part of the opening process is normal but I wish it wasn’t. This was the first thing I noticed when I opened mine. It is a minor detail I feel they overlooked.
Like you state it would be smooth during the whole opening process if the tang was just a little bigger.
But the good news is it will get much smoother with a little use.
