Interesting how the very cheap one I have has so far lasted at least 5x longer than the Dremels and I push this one much harder. I tended to use the Dremels in a hanger with the flex shaft and a powerful Delta blowing over it (yes, those Delta server fans that are so loud someone standing next to me has to be yelled at loudly just so they can hear me) so temperature doesn’t seem to be an issue. Proxxon tools aren’t sold in this country any more so I guess I will have to go for a die grinder and a quiet compressor that doesn’t annoy half the neighbourhood. I’m all for importing stuff as I do it all the time but not sure I want to risk the cost of a Proxxon for warranty claims.
Dremels used to be very decent in the late 80s early 90s but design and quality started to nosedive when bosch decided to milk the brandname. Ive been using proxxon for the last couple of years, not the fully integrated or battery powered models but one with the separate transformer (NG 5/E) and its been pretty bombproof. Ive not yet worked with the current slim model yet but if its still anything like the old clunker i have then i can highly recommend it.
I’ve had an AC version Dremel for about 12ys now. Use it fairly often, and still works great. I don’t try and cut off a 2 inch piece of angle iron with it. I have a real cutoff tool for things like that.

That looks like one of the old good models, take a little care of it and that will last you for at least another deecade. They literally do not make them like that anymore.
Back when I got the Hilda 170W Dremel type tool years ago, I also saw a bigger powered 400W unit. You can for example check it out for sale here or there (a Russian lad comments he measured its power consumption under load at ≈400W). Back then I wanted a tool with a chuck using nut and collets or “Dremel style”, as I had many accesories from an old Dremel clone; this was the main reason I didn't venture into trying the above 400W “heavy-lifter”. Whether it was the best decision or not, I'm not really sure now.
Fairly sure the HLD-400W is a value/price ratio winner. ;-)
