is this a c8 ???

i have one of these jobs…

http://www.tractorsupply.com/en/store/brinkmannreg%3B-armor-max-tactical-lithium-flashlight

is this a c8?

i unscrewed the pill, and, it looks just like the c8-dropins around the web…

i kinda wanted to get a dropin for it… 180 lumens is “okay”, but… i’m getting quite used to a bit more, LMAO

i like the small size, makes the tailswitch fine to operate, bigger lights with a tailcap are ridiculous to me. Decent size decently deep reflector…

i like zoom lights, nd might have to get one of the cheap c8 zoomies i have see around th web…

so… does this look like a c8? (I ask, because i looked online at a c10, honestly looked almost identical to me, lol)

Sorry, can’t help. 1-4/5”, wha? 6-9/10”, huh? Who uses fractions like those. I don’t think there are “drop ins” for screw in pills. You might get someone nearby to mod yours for you if you don’t want to DIY.

No… C8 has 44mm head, that one is only 36mm

thanks , guys… just thought someon would take one look at this, and maybe know what it is… by eye though, the screw in pill looks just like the c8 dropins for sale…

I realize calling a aftermarket “screw in” by the misleading term “dropin” might not be technically accurate? but… theres definitely sales of them…

Those are just assembled pills. You could take some measurements of yours to get an idea if it would fit or not. Yours definitely doesn’t look like a c8 though the pill may have the same dimensions.

yeah, i located my digital caliper… the digital caliper in the one link i posted, its another 2 mm or so when i take the same measurement on mine.

maybe its me, but…

i thought “drop in” was when you just bought, for instance, a p60 module? you didnt have to do anything, you just “dropped it in” (maybe wrapped some foil, lol) hence, it was called a “drop in”.

a c8 “drop in” would be ready to screw in, and go enjoy your “new” light…

obviously i am wrong…

P60 is probably the most common ‘drop in’ there are other drop in modules like the much larger ~50mm multi-emitter drop ins at DX, or the various maglite drop ins. Probably way more than that too.

Without looking at a definition I would probably consider this preassembled C8 pill/emitter/driver to be a ‘drop in’, but it seems odd to call it that imo. I would probably call it a pill assembly or an assembled C8 pill module or something like that.

As long as you have a link/picture of what you’re talking about you could very well call it a ‘whatchamacallit’ and people will understand. :stuck_out_tongue:

Don’t C8’s typically have screw in pills but not a common thread size? Then it’s anyone’s guess if the one you buy will fit unless you buy said drop in from the same place you buy the light and it says it fits the light you purchased. Even then I wouldn’t be surprised if it didn’t.

when i first started to get into this LED illumination thing? I read about it… and a “P60” as an IDEA seemed wonderful.

a “standard” thing. You can buy them and swap them. P60 light, p60 drop in? no problems…

and like everything else? its “pretty good”, looks better on paper though, lol…

so, i am into digital night vision… and you worry as much or sometimes MORE about your infrared illuminator, than as much as you worry about your actual night vision setup, lol… I had bought a “crap-inator” off of Ebay, big gigantic write up?? it was absolute CRAP. It was great for across 2 rooms, not even across the back YARD.

most of our “first illuminators” for IR is most new guys buy a p60 drop in off of one of our own members. THAT one worked fine, lol… but? once i made a different housing and lensing for the IR drop in… i had this “left over” 502b or whatever laying around…

and i found out the “p60 drop in” IR i had bought from the member? fit INTO the body and worked, but… the threads didnt match.

a 3xAAA “indestructible” from walmart? curiously, THAT screwed in and matched the threads of the 502 light body, LMAO, but… no way to thread on the reflector from the p60 drop in.

===

the whole IDEA of having a “standard”, is that sizes match and threads match, lol… in todays world of high speed production CNC machining? its like they punch in a random code to make random threads on flashlight stuff, lol

===

i’m more into the LENSES, and make multiple lens focusing IR illuminators. I have seen the tell-tale “well focused emitter” from my one light, over 800 yards away on my screen, on a clear night (but, thats IR, not visible light… 850nm, if anyone cared) and thats from a p60 module a guy in europe made for me from my night vision site.

with “visible” (which was what i cut my teeth on, before i switched over to the invisible IR, lol) i was abl to see my illumination 300 to 350 yards away dim but visible to the naked eye, before i switched over to the IR modules. I didnt know one emitter or driver from another a year ago, lol… that was whatever emitter and driver comes with the “ray-o-vac 3xAAA indestructble” light from wal mart…

i turned into a “flashaholic” quite by accident, doing this, lol…

“de-doming” came up on my night vision site, someone de-domed a red “lamping” visible light in england… which led me to HERE to read some L-O-N-G thread about de-doming… took me over an HOUR of reading thru 17 pages of “cutting and polishing” methods, to get to the “soak in gasoline” part, LMAO…

i de-domed an old budget XML light… then a budget XBD light… i’m kinda on a “mad de-doming spree” right now, lmFao…

==

i’m about gonna have to start doing my own emitter/driver assemblies now… to save money buying budget lights, LMAO…

That definitely looks like a variant of an HS-801 flashlight. If it’s got an XR-E led it might interest you if you’re looking for an extreme pencil beam thrower. The HS-802/801 design was just about the pinnacle of thrower design for the now dated XR-E led but it still makes for quite a thrower because the beam is so narrow.

4 strips… 2 bonding wires on the outer edge of the outer 2 strips…

on flashlight wiki, it most resembles the xp-g

710ma and 180ma for hi and low, tailcap readings

(I hate the seizure/disco mode, lol)

comparing the companies claimed 170 lumens, and the tailcap reading of 700ma… against the emitter bins for it on flashlight wiki… what are the ODDS a company DOWNrated the lumen output? lol… never heard of one doing THAT before…

yes… it does resemble an hs-801/802 light… and yes, its a decent little thrower… small hotspot

might benefit from a driver upgrade, as is…? some HALF decent numbers on the 1.5amp listings on flashlight wiki, lol… 5 watts doesnt seem too out of line for a plastic reflector.
