Is this a real SkyRay STL-V2?

I am still relatively new to budget lights so I figured I’d ask the experts here about my new purchase.

I just purchased and received today from lightmalls.com an SkyRay STL-V2, my first thrower. But the light I got does not look exactly like the photos I have seen of all the other SkyRay STL-V2s photos. The biggest difference is there is not green ring around the glass. Also the led and asembly look different. The glass is loose and I can’t seem to tighten it down. It does not tail stand correctly because the power button protrudes beyond the end of the cap. Lastly, I don’t see any way to switch from 3 to 5 to 3 modes. It works as a 5 mode light only. I never had a 3/5 mode light but I don’t think I am doing anything wrong. I mesaured the current on high and it is using 1.46 amps which is in line with others so maybe the led itself is up to par.

Can someone look and see if they think this is a fake or just a newer model. I bought and paid for a real Skyral STL-V2, not some knock off. I wanted a real so to get the throwing ability. Thanks.

DEFINITELY diferen’t than all the V2s I have seen.

It usually has the LED soldered onto the Aluminum heatsink disk and secured onto the tube with 2x screws.

Definitely a completely different light than mine, in mine the reflector is separate from the pill. But either way it looks like it should throw well. :)

Is there an o-ring between the lense and bezel? If not, its relatively easily fixed, you just need to order one, other wise, whilst not an stl-v2, it looks like it’ll throw pretty well.

Odd, but wont make much difference. Sshould throw like a tantrum.

Seems to be same as UniqueFire UF-V2 from DD.

There is already an O ring. The rattle sound gets on my nerves. I am trying to return the light. If I was to keep it, I would have to fix the glass.

Thanks for the heads up. That must be it. Rats. I wanted the Skyray to get the better driver, the dual modes and better designed reflector.

I have open a dispute with Paypal to try to get this resolved.

This light is the better build. Thicker head and screw-in reflector, very good heatsinking. The rattling is easily fixed by adjusting reflector screwing - it was just screwed in too deep. Loosen it a quarter turn or so, try until snug fit. Not too tight though as lens do need a bit of thermal expansion relief.

It has also smaller and deeper reflector, not good.

UPDATE: I reported this to Paypal and Lightmalls responded and agreed to either take the light back or give me a $15 credit so I accepted the credit and ordered a $14 headlight which uses one 18650. I don’t have any headlights and figured an LED headlight running on an 18650 would be very bright and useful for work around the house and car. I don’t care if it is a clone or whatever as I have no aspectations of headlights. :sunglasses:
