ISDT C4 Evo experiences, fan noise.

That´s normal for NiMH because the voltage drops immediately after charging stopped.

But max. 100mAh is a very good, fast termination for a full NiMH, most chargers need longer to terminate full cells.

1.0.0.4

Even from troubleshooting point of view it makes no sense. There are HW 1.0.0.4 chargers that “reset”, but they don’t have long standing issue with early termination and yet there are chargers that don’t reset, but have issues with early termination.
Anyone was able to reach ISDT support?

Got a reply from ISDT sales support. They say 1.0.0.46 is not recommended, suggested to use 1.0.0.44. Said they were working on the issue though can’t reproduce it. I mentioned that there are at least two exclusive issues and pointed them to this thread.

Wow, in my experience the ISDT support never answers

Looks like 1.0.0.46 FW was withdrawn from ISDT web site:

Honestly, this charger is terrible for NiMH. Almost everytime i have early termination issues, i bought two Chargers and they BOTH have this same issue, tried using Kyosho FW and i still have this issue, also tried 15ΔmV setting, no success.

The funny part is, i also have a LiitoKala Lii-M4, Lii-M4S and Lii-500 and they don’t have any early termination issues, and they’re cheaper and worse (feature-wise). It’s sad because i really like the amount of features C4 Evo has, even the software is nice to use.

From very limited data I was able to gather here and other places - those chargers that have early termination issue, with new FW will also will have liion overdischarge issue but will not have restart issue.
Those chargers that don’t have NiMh early termination issue (like mine) with new FW will have restart issue.
The whole situation with this charger is a shame, because it could have been one of the best and for many “the one” charger. And it still can be. Just a bit more resources to invest in QA and development. Still I’m keeping the charger, because I have hope for future FW versions and worst case I stay on 44 which has everything I need except 1.5V Li-Ion support.

1.0.0.45 is out

Quick test on my device showed that 1.0.0.45 has support for 1.5V Li-Ion and has same issues with “restarts”. Disappointing.

There is something I don’t understand with this charger - I was trying to “analyze” (test capacity) Vapcel F15 cells, nominal capacity is 1500mAh. I have two cells.

Charger shows cell #1: 931mAh at 0.3A discharge to 2.5V 3h:13m:55s;
cell #2: 959mah at 0.3A discharge to 2.5V 3h:21m:55
So calculations are about right ->>> 0.3*3.2319h = 970mAh, but that’s way below nominal capacity. And this is with manufacturer recommended discharge conditions (discharge 0.2C = 300mA, 2.5V cut off)
I made a second test, I charged cells with BT-C3100, thinking maybe C4 Evo undercharges them. Same results: 924mah and 964mah.

Same cells on the BT-C3100 show 1383mAh and 1390mAh with 500mA charge and 500mA discharge to 2.8V
Same cells on Vapcell BL4 show 1576mAh at 0.5A to 2.5V 3hXXm; 1566mAh at 0.5A to 2.5V 3:08h
How could this be?

I figured this out, there’s another bug in C4 Evo - measuring Li-Ion cells in vertical slot won’t give you correct results. One should use horizontal slots for LiIon grading. Firmware 1.0.0.44.

4 14500 test cells, 2 F12 (1250mAh) and 2 F15 (1500mAh) when measured in vertical cells (discharge 300mA, cut-off 2.5V):

#1 F15 724mAh
#2 F15 737mAh
#3 F12 699mAh
#4 F12 649mAh

Same cells measured in horizontal slots, spacers used (discharge 300mA, cut-off 2.5V):
#1 F15 1543mAh
#2 F15 1590mAh
#3 F12 1337mAh
#4 F12 1289mAh

Charging of 14500 LiIon works fine in vertical and horizontal cells:
F12 charge auto horizontal - 1234mAh, 2:10 (?)
F12 charge auto vertical - 1249mAh, 2:52
F15 charge 500mA horizontal - 1475mAh in, 3:17
F15 charge 500mA vertical - 1473mAh in. 3:14

Is there a site that has the 1.0.0.45 or 1.0.0.46 ISDT firmwares? Preferably with sha256 checksums? I’d like to do some testing of my own.

Unfortunately, ISDT doesn’t have these available.

PS- I plan on flashing with Kyosho’s firmware tool as I can switch between firmwares without issue (at the time of writing).

If you point to file sharing online service I can upload to without registration, here is what I have:

Filebin seems popular. Just tested. Seems to work as advertised:

Thanks for this!

Here you go. Please post your test results here.

Are there any updates from users on the latest firmware, regarding both fan noise and cut off for Eneloop cells. Would be nice if ISDT actually resolved the fan issue by swapping out for a larger, virtually ‘silent’ unit.

@Horilka hello! I was wondering if you could do another filebin upload of .45 / .46 I got the C4 Evo for charging 1.5 LiIons and of course they removed the older firmware that would do it, So since not super worried about the NiMH issues as I have an N8 as well I was hoping to find the firmware. I went on deep dive of searching and funny enough I did stumble across 1.0.0.34, so if you want to add to your collection (if you dont have it that is lol) I can send ya that, but this post is honestly the only lead I could find across the internet that even has a chance at the .45/.46 I even just made an account to reply here. I super appreciate it if you can! Thanks!

Here my collection - Filebin | ehioqbh1h0x89gvv
Yes, please share 1.0.0.34, I don’t have it.

Thanks so much!!! I uploaded the .34 to the same file bin let me know if you see it!

Thanks again!
