ISDT C4 Evo experiences, fan noise.

Guys, do you know of any other USB-C charger that’s small, no bigger than this one, has a display, and can adjust the output up to 1A? I only care about charging NiMh batteries, as I have an MC5000 for other cells. I’ve already got rid of my C4 Evo.

You’re describing C4 Evo with older FW or with Kyosho FW

Did C4 Evo ever have reliable NiMh charging?

No, that’s why I got rid of it, and I tested various software. Unfortunately, I didn’t know this when I bought it.

If you have undercharging NiMh issue in mind - I was never able to reproduce it on mine.

Do you have ISDT or Limeta? Maybe my unit had a problem and it’s worth checking another one. Can a Limeta charger be flashed with ISDT/Kyosho software?

They are all made at the same factory. When I was looking into NiMh undercharging I chatter with several ppl and all had same HW release but some experienced it and other did not. It was 50-50. Mine is ISDT. It’s either chip SDK or ISDT FW issues, I suspect not being able to correctly work with variety of power supplies. I also suspect that using 5V is the safe choice and would provide the most predictable results.

I agree with “Horilka”, the charger is unpredictable and has a lot of problems. I sent mine back to Amazon, they refunded my money, but I haven’t decided yet whether I will order it again. For charging 1.5V Li-Ion I am currently using XTAR VX4, it can also measure the capacity of these batteries. For other batteries I use SKYRC MC5000, LIITOKALA LII-600 and POWEREX MH-C9000. Well, and a few more.

I was going to buy the C4 Evo again (Limeta version), but I happened to find the C4 Air for about $8. It can charge the same batteries, but doesn’t have the different modes and display, but it does have BT and an app - I’ll test it.

I have already received the Limeta R4 Air, overall a powerful and small charger, the application works, but the time counting is faulty - I created a topic:

Just tested my C4 Evo (not the Limeta version) with the 1.5 Li-Ion Soshine batteries, and I can confirm TimMc’s results.

Batteries Photo

The firmware version is 1.0.0.49. The charger is connected to the 100W PD PSU via type-c cable, and shows 11.9V on the screen. And it supplies 5.33V and 0.4A to the batteries. I got the same results with a 65W PSU. With a 5V 2A PSU, my C4 Evo supplies 5.19V and 0.4A (I’m pretty sure that the charging current is controlled by the battery’s IC, and the charger itself just provides the voltage and measures the current)

I can flash and test the 2.0.0.3 version, if someone can share the link to 1.0.0.49

That is my question also. Need the older firmware 1.0.0.49 to test my device. With the newest I have a problem with my cooling. The fan does not start that I replaced for my wife was hearing this awful noice. Checked the new fan that is 5v and working alright. But after discharging two 21700, it stopped because of overheating and the fan did not work at all. So I might try the older firmware to see if the fan is working allright. Please help me with this 49.
