I have a PC10 that failed after quite a few years of EDC service. I’m looking for information regarding the repairability and modability of this light. I am also open to seeing if someone here could just do the work for a fee of some sort. Thank you!
Failed… how?
Had to goggle what’s a PC10… a 2012 light!
Problem is that even if you’d be okay with a different driver and thus different UI, as I doubt originals would be available, Jetbeams in general are hard to open, let alone modify. Usually glued shut, as I’d love to replace the evil-green emitters on my Jet-Is and Jet-IIs to something, well, nicer, but the damned things seem welded shut.
That’s why if I like a light, I’ll buy 2 if not 3 of 'em, just to make sure I’m never without.
But anyway, if no one here can answer in this thread, might offer to buy one in the b/s section, and either use it intact if it works, or if you can piece together one (eg, busted switch in one, busted driver in the other), try cracking them open and getting at least one good one out of it.
When dealing with lights this mature, I always look into the reviews of @selfbuilt to see if he can offer me that bit of extra information I need to open up and/or repair a light. So here’s that REVIEW and it looks like it’s not a light to be modded by absolute beginners. It has a tailswitch, but also a head that takes care of (part of) the UI.
The tailswitch is the simple part. Have you tried if that is broken or dirty by opening the light and use a piece of copper wire to connect the bottom of the battery and the shiny part at the very end of the body/tube?
This is great advice, one of the few light “failures” I’ve had was caused by the switch retaining ring becoming loose, very simple to fix.
Yeh, I had a Lumintop go mental on me for no apparent reason, and after going back to basics, there it was, a loose retaining ring.
Thank you! As I understand it, there’s no operation whatsoever when operating the switch even with a fresh battery. I’ll start with the simplest culprits first and post when I have more information. The light is currently in my father’s possession and so it may be a bit before I can properly fiddle with it.
Perfect excuse to buy him a new light for Fathers Day
