Although i do not own a WL-S4 i have always had a soft spot for Jetbeams. My first real light was the RRT-1 xre r2 with 240 lumens and approx 40 kcd.
I also have the excellent bc40 xml [ no stepdown on high] which i purchased when they first came out as well as other models.
Jetbeam seem to have lost its way since its split with sysmax, releasing some average lights with pretty ordinary performance.
I purchased a WL-S1 6 months ago, despite its versatility and output, I must say it was a little disappointing to discover its step down characteristics and a pwm driver that flickers like a fluro tube on all output levels.
Another example would be the bc25se which my friend bought and it falls well short of the advertised 960 lumens which i measured at 650 - 700 max.
As for the WL-S4 i would want to know if it exhibits pwm flicker before purchase. I see fasttech has it for $71 us dollars and some of the beamshots i have seen [on the german forum] are impressive and would be a good mod light with a XHP70 upgrade.
Yeah i bought a led lenser p7 in late 2010 and in a way, it led me to better understand the value of a good regulated torch with a parabolic reflector and most importantly the value of rechargable cells.
Although this probably does not help much , seeing though your from Sydney, i thought i would just add a general comment.
I only have one Jetbeam flashlight - the RRT-01… But its an amazing light - magnetic infinite control of output, and the quality is brilliant. I have had no problems with it, and the output on an 18350 is astounding. A very premium flashlight.
The only thing about Jetbeam is that they are quite expensive I think. Hence why I only have one!
I also bought the WL-S1 for its versatility being able to use any type of CRC123-size or AA-size battery without carrying an extra battery tube extension. I run it with an IMR 16500 lithium, the diameter of a 123 and the length of an AA and it performs like a champion. It is almost as bright as the BLF A6 SE with a Samsung 30Q 18650. I can detect no PWM on any mode but that may be my old eyes. It is a well-made and substantial light though it may be on the outskirts of EDC-ability for some (depending on how tight your pants are.) What’s the battery load of the WL-S4?
Yea I own a 3m pro also I like jetbeam lights good build quality usually! I was going to buy the wls1 but then I read you had to buy extra tubes to certain cells in.
I would think that jetbeam lumen count would be on par because its ansi rated
i know before Jetbeam and nitecore where sister companies. i think jetbeam is good bang for buck i got my 3m pro for like 65 AUD i think not bad for the light that it is. i like every thing about it!
i guess all of my jetbeam lights are throwers and that is why i like them while most of my Nitecore light are floods
Yes, I have one. Got mine on 6/17/2015. I use 2 protected Orbtronics in it. No problems. Nice tint. I know of no other “stock” flashlight that runs on 2 18650s that pumps out that many lumens. Love the look of the LED; reminds me of a beehive or something. Only slight gripe: the mode selector button on the barrel is so flush that when it’s not lit up, it’s a little hard to locate. And if one were using it with gloves, it’d be even harder to find…
Well, even though the reflector and LED make this a very bright floody, Jetbeam says 380 meters. I believe it only because it’s so bright, the flood still reaches out there!
you just sold me lol i might hit up fasttech when i get paid i have been eyeing it out for so long now! i like the design of the skinny battery tube and the longer overall length of the light compared to the short and fat style flashlights.
