Just Drilled My Finger

though. He could’ve drilled his middle leg. :open_mouth:

If you're using that as a vice, you're in the wrong line of work...

I remember holding stuff down in my lap while I went at it with an AC power drill. Darwin’s Law could’ve easily kicked in there, man. Or at minimum no kids later in life. :open_mouth:

Here's a good one from this summer:

Woke up in pain during the night and had to take some pain killers left over from my shoulder surgery just to get back to sleep. The finger is super sensitive. I completely regret doing it now. I used my drill press this morning to finish the work I started last night and to be honest it took just as long to do - I guess I'm too lazy to put the PCB in the vice - that was the only thing I needed to do differently lol.

"Numb nuts" is what my father called me when he saw me at lunch

When ya say it’s super sensitive, I don’t like the sounds of that. Could be a smoldering infection around or into the bone. This is not good.

Go tomorrow if you can. I bet he puts you on a precautionary MRSA-combating antibiotic like Septra at minimum.

:cowboy_hat_face:

Well it does feel like my finger is about to explode... it's not terribly swollen, but it's hard as a rock. I washed the wound out with hospital grade disinfectant before the betadine and plaster last night. Might give it another good wash and if it's still rotten tomorrow, go see the docs. Poo.

EDIT: Just to be clear it was like this last night as well. I'm not a doctor but I don't think infections can take hold within 10mins of the injury occurring. Still, if it's worse or sees no improvement overnight then I'll do the responsible thing.

A friend of mine managed to thread a truck wheel lug nut completely down the length of his finger using an impact driver. That takes skill. And beer.

Another one fired a power staple into his dick a couple of days before his honeymoon. And he owned the company that sold the things… More skill… and I suspect more beer.

I don't even want to ask...

When I was a kid a friend of mine was laying down soldering some wires for his car radio under the dash when a drop of solder fell up his nose. Bumped his head too trying to get out from under the dash.

duuuude.. have a beer

I was going to say just slap some duck tape on it…but

Sounds like you might have an infection. , Slap some duck tape on it…

If you warm up or start feeling weak…Better get to a doc!

I was a framing carpenter back in the day and have probably pounded a few million nails ..About 15 years ago I was building a yard barn and had some scrap lumber I wanted to use up ...So I was knocking a few boards apart ...Missed and hit myself in the face with a 22oz estwing....of course it had to split the skin in a nice crescent shape .I saved $11 on lumber and spent alot on a few tiny stitches ...not brilliant

Electrical tape is much better as a compressive bandage due to its elasticity. My right hand has spent the last 5 decades gloating over what it has gotten away with doing to my left hand(hammers, drills, saws, you name it). Some hands have all the fun.

Trauma hurts, puncture wounds and crush wounds especially. Ice it initially if you can stand it to keep the swelling down. Redress it frequently to inspect it and clean it(bad bugs grow in the bloody bandage). Have you had a tetanus shot or booster in the past 5 years? Very little upside to shorting yourself on that one.

I've redressd it every morning. It's a lot less sensitive today but still swollen. It's definitely getting better though.

No tetnus or booster shot for a LONG time as far as I can remember. I'm travelling over seas in December and need to see a doc about immunization for that so might ask him about the finger Monday. I think it'll be fine. I only feel sick because of all the beer I drunk last night

Now That's FunnySmile

My wife's an retired nurse (RN), so not only don't I get sympathy, but she wants to scrub the wound out with a brush and alcohol too. I love her dearly, but I don't tell her if I get hurt. I just try to sneak in the house and wash it out myself.

I feel your pain... and your shame...Wink

A customer of his brought in the power stapler that was hopelessly jammed. He knew just what to do… unfortunately it wasn’t jammed in the usual way and got a nasty surprise when it unjammed. And apparently it is rather embarrassing to show up at the doctor’s office and say: “Hey doc, I got a staple in my dick…”
